BMW CCA Autocross

[B]Took the TSX to autocross yesterday, still got the #'s on the side, gotta wash her lol, It was my first time at autocross but once i figured out what i was doing the TSX managed to get some decent times, didnt do to high cause there were porshes and S2000's in my class but even w/ the stock suspension she could handle the corners, abosulty loves Left foot braking,

Forgot to add on, Defenutly realized I need better suspension if I wanna do more autocross events, would like to stay below the 300$ mark if possible, would kill for the mugen suspension but i just cant afford to drop a grand, what do u guys recomend, looking for a 1-1.5 inch drop nothing more, performance oriented rather then looks

Cool mang.

Do you have any pics you could post? And what about timeslip comparisons with other competitors?

not possible for $300, you really need aftermarket shocks for performance either koni yellows or full coilovers. You can get a sway bar for ~$180 though, that should help.

Seat time and tires are your best bang for the buck mods, with seat time being the biggest thing. If this was your first autocross you were likely doing a lot of things wrong. Throwing money into suspension mods will mask the real problem. Tighten the nut behind the wheel first!

I also do the BMWCCA but for the boston chapter, and I race a Camaro z28 in non-bmw Street mod class with street tires. So that puts me in class I.

Anyone else on this forum do the BMWCCA autocrosses? I like them because you get a lot of seat time and runs in. We get 7 or 8 runs per day for the boston chapter.

MemRheins, congrats on your first autox! Sounds like some weird classes that have Porsches and S2000s in the same class as TSX? Does BMW CCA kinda lump all non-BMWs into one class or what?

Stiffer rear sway bar and stickier tires might be your best bets for improved autox times. bbradley has excellent advice above, another version of which is "fix the driver, then the car". If you can get to an SCCA Evolution autox school, I hear they are excellent.

I do occasionally, I havent autox-ed at all this year though (the past few years I would get to 10-15 events) due to being in grad school. You'd run in a different class than I would...pushing 100+ more hp out than I have. I think street/stock Miata is G? Not sure...I'll have to check what the washing machine at home is classed as, it does double duty as magnetic number/letter storage.

I've been running BMWCCA Boston Chapter events for the last 3 years... in my S2000... The RSX and TSX don't even come close I have them too...

I've been autoXing my 2.3CL for about 4 months now, and I took the EVO school last month. This school is WORTH EVERY PENNY!!! I learned so much from that school. The best part is the instructors love instructing and are real passionate about students getting out there and learning and improving.

If you get a chance TAKE THIS SCHOOL.

Also, I run DEAD STOCK, no mods whatsoever. The only thing I've bought are Falken Azenis sport tires. If you want to keep autocrossing BUY THESE. They stiffen up your car A LOT!!! and they are super sticky.

Hmm...isn't it amusing that BMW separates all the non-BMW cars into a different class? Are they afraid that they'll get humiliated by a non-BMW owner?

I know you are joking (I think). They mainly do it because they actually keep class points and there is a winner at the end of the season. It is the BMW club after all.

I am joking. Note the smiley.

BTW, if you really do have a 91 M5, props to you. I was thinking about getting one of those because they're such a slick looking car. I would love to take the newer M5 V8 and put it in the body of one of the older M5s.

Actually, a stroker version of the straight six (from 3.6 to 3.9 liters, 390+hp) is pretty much the equal of the E39 M5. Plus, you get the great sound and feel of the six. Yes, I have had one since 1998 and have put 125k miles on it, including a rebuild.

I would love to have a 1st gen M5. My first car ever that I bought was an old 85 528e, and I loved the hell out of that car. I would love to find a nice 89 M5.

I looked for fun and there were 2 in LA, they were both going for about 11g :wow:
