The 300C Hauls Ass!

About 800-1000ft from my house, there's an intersection. I live on a 4 lane boulevard with a speed limit of 70kph.

About every 15 minutes or so on average, I hear cars pass by, no, scream by my home full throttle. Many times, folks are racing. Personally, I don't really mind it, and I don't think the neighbors do either. It's just the way it is around here.

So of course, when the time is right, I do some of my own all-out drag-type launches and scream the car all the way up to 105-110kph before standing tall on the brakes and park the car in the driveway.

Since tonight I'm out to the tracks for the first time this year, I need to make sure my launching techniques are finely tuned, need to at least assess this and today's weather is ideal: 20°C, sunny, dry. So I line up at the stop light, and my clear intention is to make it to the driveway as fast as my carwill bring me there.

Before the light turns green, this old man pulls up in a blingey 300C.

Now I get kinda nervous, because you never know why those old guys buy these big V8's right, they might be racers at heart, who knows? And if that indeed is the case, I'm getting my ass handed to me before I find my driveway.

Well the guy anticipates somewhat the green light and starts moving. I wait till it's green, but when it is green, I'm all throttle and screeches. Obviously, the guy notices, and before I have had the chance to get ahead of him by half a car length, he floors it.

Despite myself (remember, I wasn't going to race, just practice!!), here I am getting raced on by an old man with pretty good reactions in a boat of a 300C. I know it's over. As soon as I see him stop losing ground on me, I know it is for sure. But deep in me, I can't let this happen!

Not to be undone, I make sure I have at least a ton of pressure on the gas just in case the TSX might interpret that I'd want to slow down somewhat. Full-throttle shift it in 2nd. By then, he's back nose to nose with me, and moving ahead. Still, I can't let the guy go, even though i get that expected sinking feeling that I'm just food for his Ego at that point. So I keep that ton of weight on the throttle until I full-throttle shift to third.

He's a car length ahead of me now, and my driveway coming soon. Reluctantly I have to switch from gas to brake with that same ton of pressure on the pedal, because if I don't, I'm overshooting my driveway.

Well, I got my ass handed to me. By an old man in a big 300C. Oh well, it was to be expected right? And plus, it looks like the racing bug isn't about to leave the young at heart it seems...

Good story, mansauce.

And yeah, the 300C puts up some nice numbers, but is way too much of a land barge for my tastes. One of my colleagues at work is considering it for his next car though.

Frankly, I thought the 300C was pretty nicely done when I took a look at one a few weeks ago. If only Honda could pour some money into developing the ultimate V8 engine, we too could enjoy smoking people at the stop lights like that.

gotta remmeber something, honda is all about fuel economy, thus the reason why the s2000 is a 4 cyc and they dont have an 8. but for the power theyre making in thier 4s n 6s i could definately see that same trend in an 8. but then that whole fuel economy thing comes into play. tho its not very outstanding its there at heart. alteast thats my take on it

My neighbor just bought a 300C. I commented on his chrome wheels - he said touch them - they were plactic wheel covers. What was Chrysler thinking?

Geezus Chris! A 300C is a nice big arse Chrysler/mafia pip car. It has a new V8 Hemi squeezed under the hood. We'll be seeing them for sale here in Australia later this year.

Oh if you watch V8 Supercar races the pace car is a 300C!

(If I had the money I'd buy one!....Love to show up those falcodores)

Dude, been there, done that... I learned my lesson... Don't race with my TSX... Keep the race for my NSX (which is getting a Comptech SC as we speak)...

The TSX is not a fast car againsts a 300C but I surely prefer the ride to the 300C... It feels more connected to the pavement.

Cheers...
