04 TL vs. 04 Maxima, in a race, TL would win right?

Both of these cars are FWD, but common sense stats wise, since the 04 TL has 270hp, while the 04 Maxima has 265hp, the TL would win in a race right? Not sure about torque on either though.

Isn't this deja vu? The 02-03 TL-S had 260hp, while the 00-03 Maxima had 255hp.

the Maxima has more torque though, so you cant just say TL b/c its got 5more hp, gotta compared the weight and tranny and etc... but honestly, there is no way to say one car is faster than the other since they're so close in spec.s

I think they are both rated right around 6.0 I think the question is which has more torque steer

that'd be a pretty good race. i'd be happy to take either car...but i'd be happier if i had the TL cuz it's a more well rounded car. i'm sure both cars are more than quick enough to keep you happy.

I'd say TL, but by just a hair. Overall, the TL is a much better car with better equipment and a better transmission. Plus, I'm a bigger fan of the interior.

its based more on drivers skill and shifting.

based on:

drivers skill

shifting

tire

tranny

drive-by-cable or drive-by-wire

weight distribution

aerodynamic of cars

traction control

fuel load

road condition

weather

muscle strength

eagerness for speeding ticket

distraction from roadside animals

pyschological fitness (speedophobia)

how much their butt weigh (has influence on center of gravity of cars)

have they poohed before race? This has impact on weight distribution during acceleration, resulting from 70-30 (stall) to 69.999999999-30.000000001(accelerating)

pit strategy (you didn't say how long the race will be)

readiness to die

You can beat a 12-cylinder RWD Ferrari with a 3-cylinder FWD Saab if you can choose among the variables mentioned above. It's been done, and more than once!

cmf, a normal power sunroof is avail on the Maxima. just an FYI brah!!

CGTSX, if it's auto vs auto, you dont want to go there (read: "better transmission"). Looking at history, the CLS/TLS/Accord V6 auto tranny were much more troublesome than the Maxima/I30/I35.

As for the 6MT, it seems that 2k4 Maxima 6MTs are A LOT less notchy than the 5.5G Maxima 6MT (2002/3). But the jury's out on whether or not this 6MT is better than the TL.

I added two more criteria based on what you wrote.

you step on the gas and the steering wheel pulls to one side. to experience it yourself, go drive a manual TL or manual Altima/Maxima

It's even more obvious on a turbo equiped car where the torque curve is not linear. It's really bad on cars with unequal half shafts driving the front wheels.

That's definitely the worst.

0-60 TL = 5.8sec
0-60 Max = 6.4 sec

Don't most new FWD cars come with equal length half-shafts to minimize torque steer now?

Not a head to head test though.

Until there tested on the same day by the same driver. we won't know.

And was that Max an Auto or MT?

Another TL MT test had it doing 6.1.

You'd think so, but no. GM is pretty good at that, though. That new Saturn ION Red Line doesn't torque steer, from the reviews I've read about it. And the Cadillacs that are FWD with V8s, they also have equal length shafts.

My old Saabs had longitudinal engine placements which allowed equal halfshaft length .. and they both had gobs of torque-steer! So does my Volvo which has transverse engne placement and unequal length halfshafts. I certainly expected this with FWD and 236hp. The TSX isn't too bad IMO, but I thought that was because it was only 200hp. Anyway, I think there's a lot more to the equation than just the halfshaft length. I don't even find it all that annoying although I've been driving FWDs for well over 20 years now. The window controls of the TSX are more annoying to me than the torque steer.

I do too. I used to bring up the Acura RL as an example of FWD not having torque steer because the engine was longitudinally mounted and thus allowed for equal shaft lengths (because that's what I've read)...until an actual owner told me it indeed torque steers. Needless to say, I stopped doing that, LOL.
