Windshield popping

I've read all the thread on various rattles and noise in the TSX. My TSX is 3 months old, 4000 miles, and in the past couple of days since the temperatures here have dropped lower than before, my windshield has started popping. At first, it sounded like the thing was going to fall out; really a disturbing sound. It is just intermittent, but has happened now for several days.

I've read one thread in which one dealer was going to completely replace the windshield for this problem. Is there a fix short of that?

It seems like lots of people are having this little problem. I haven't heard of a long term solution to it yet. Someone, I believe JiggaMan, got their windshield cowl replaced (the plastic piece below the windshield) and said that fixed it, but i'm not sure if the noise didn't come back later on. I brought my car to the dealer, but it was too warm out so they couldn't duplicate the noise. I think i'm gonna wait till my first oil change to bring it to them again.

I read somewhere that one dealer wedged a piece of felt up between the glass and the headliner to stop the noise. Worth a shot, at least until a proper fix is worked out...

I know I'm about to curse it but my rattle has gone away by itself.

I had my car into a dealer on Friday for rattles. The dealer added some sort of cushioning or felt in the dual dome light assembly area, but it still rattled a bit. They have also ordered a replacement dome light assembly, which should arrive next week. The rattles are greatly reduced, but something very minor rattling is still there.

rattles

I was reading some of the posts about the windshield/dash area making noise. I have the same problem...I've only had mine 2 months and it has about 2K miles...It only seems to do it when it's cold out. But it's very annoying!

Today, I also noticed that there seems to be something wrong with my drivers seat. Whenever I take a sharp turn or curve, the seat seems to go to the side and there's a thug type feeling under the seat. At first I thought I had a bottle of water or something that was under the seat and everytime I turned it would roll under the seat and hit the side, but I finally checked, and nothing down there!

Has anyone else had the seat problem? I think I can hold out until my first oil change to have both of these things checked out. But not if it gets worse.

Mine's fine in the corners but under heavy braking it shifts forward slightly.

We've beaten this windshield/door/sunroof rattle thing to death on this forum, so lets beat it some more:

Could these problems be related to a problem with chassis stiffness? It seems to me that if the windshield and doors are shifting against the rubber seals as you drive, there must be a lot of flexing going on. Also, several people have reported that their roof buckled after hitting a bump at high speed. This is apparently a known problem at Acura and fixed under warranty.

I think the TSX has a very stiff chassis but every chassis is going to flex a little. The squeaks are probabaly just a bad choice in rubber.

I agree with your stiffness theory, and have been thinking it for a while.

The TSX chassis rigid, enough so that bumps are transferred much further throughout the frame of the car than a more forgiving chassis. This means that bumps are transferred through the frame of the car to the windshield area, but the glass windshield is a material that is NOT flexible, so the windshield is ever-so-slightly unseating itself from its seal with every bump that the car encounters.

1) This seems very common. Popping/squeaking to me comes from center lower windshield area
2) Also, I agree with DAllas TSX my seat shifts on turns and feels like moving laterally

I know this is a very old thread that I'm dragging up, but this exact problem is happening to my car at 2 mos and 2k miles. The popping windshield sound seems to come from the upper left area when hitting bumps and or sharp cornering. Cooler temps do make it occur with much greater frequency. Very annoying.

That may be true, but unfortunately there's no TSB for making a Taurus suck any less.

my rattles went away after 3-4 mos. Don't ever hear it now, even when the temp drops.

maybe you should just let it settle...or turn up your stereo

Daily I take several 180 - 270 degrees turns on freeway ramps at 70-80 mph, and the car holds well, stiff as a rod & easy to control.
Years ago an UPS truck hit me from behind & threw me away from the freeway; that (other) TSX I had held excellent close to the ground and saved my rear, although it was totalled.
Guess I've been lucky for twice with this car.
