Windshield follies

Well, I just got off the phone with a glass shop, looking to replace my cracked windshield. The information I got was all predictable.

1) Nothing available to replace the windshield but the OEM part.

2) The OEM part is backordered and they can't even give me an idea of when I can hope to see it.

So, looks like I will be driving around for a few weeks with a big crack in my windshield.

Frustrating!

I went to my salesman and asked if he could help me out. Your dealership, if they're nice enough, will overnight one for you and just let them know what glass shop is going to do the work. The glass shop will need to pick it up and pay for it and then your insurance or you will pick up the cost once its done. Check out my link in my sig if you want to see a cracked windshield.

Well, my car is now mortal. Some rock came flying off a car in front of me today on the freeway and I've not a nice little crack in my windshield. One of those nice little tiny spider ones.

Hopefully insurance will just get it repaired rather than replace the whole window. Having the whole window replaced seems overkill and sort of scary. I had it done in one of my old cars and they made a mess of the inside of my car, the foam insulation from the window fell in the vents and was shooting out for years....

if you have wind blowing into your car due to broken windshield, you shall either tape it or block it, the excessive pressure may force your rear windshield to fly off. also, after replacing non-oem windsheild twce, i am sure there are "visible" differences if quality between oem and non-oem, non-oem is less clear, and get dirty easier. but it would be just me, i know OEM cost much much more....

the chip in my window isn't even all the way through the glass, just on the outside. hopefully safelite will just patch it. if insurance wants it replaced i'll make sure its oem.
