Wheel Rust

Just wondering if it is normal to see rusting on the surface of the disk part inside the wheel. Don't know what it's called (rotor??). That is not a picture of my car.

How do you get rid of it? How do you prevent it? Does the weather have something to do with it (i.e. snow, rain)?

On the pic, the round thing behind the bolts is the rotor, and the thing hugging it on the left is the caliper (with brake pads inside).

After you drive around and brake a few times, it should be gone. I went to the car wash today, and sprayed my rims....it put a layer of red/orange stuff on the rotor when it dried. So chemicals can make it look rusted. Perhaps you live in a snowy area and you got a bunch of road salt there?

Here's what mine look like...

Not sure if that's normal or excessive rust. I just know it looks horrible.

Are there any type of rotors you can get that don't rust, or at least not that much? I do live in Canada so we have some crazy winter weather (and salt unfortunately).

All the stock rotors rust and look exactly like the picture you posted. I believe there are specially designed aftermarket rotors that resist rusting. I can't say whether that actually works over the long run

Yup mines look like that too. It's so ugly. I did notice that after driving around for awhile the rust look fades. But it is still quite visible. I can't help but look at other cars to see if their rotors are as bad. They look real clean compared to mines. I don't drive my car too much...so could that be another reason?? Yes, I do live in NJ so we do get a lot of snow. Damn salt kills your car. Hate it.
