weird ass sound coming from under body...
So i took my car out, as usual, nothing new. So i pulled out of my parking spot, and its on the lower level so i have to make 3 revolutions to get up to the exit. My brakes squeal, as usual, gotta get that checked when i get home from college for winter break. But i heard a new sound today. I just took the car out yesterday, didn't hear a thing. At first I thought it was just the garage spots that I drive over making this sound but later again on the road i heard it.
The sound was sort of a metal scratchign sound?? Its almost sounds like a metal hang wire was literally hanging under my car and dragging along the floor. I turned off my radio and was driving along a clean road, and i continued to hear this metal scratching sound. I thought maybe it was something lodged under my car...i even thought it might've been a squrriel that got trapped under my car jumping around and all. So i decided, to pull over and check 1/4 mile ahead where theres open parking. But by the time i got there, the sound stopped and there was nothing under the car.
The sound sounded as if something was loose under the car, hanging there, and banging up against other parts? Or dragging along the floor? But nothing. Couldn't reproduce the sound again later either. The sound seemed like it was coming below the foot area of the front passenger seat.
Did anyone ever hear something like that? The car has about 8k miles on it right now, always babied. Its parked in a covered public parking garage which is somewhat open due to the large openinings in the side. Drove it the day before, nothing problematic about it.
I'd go to the dealer but they're 300 miles away, I don't plan to drive the car long distances except for a 50 mile road trip this weekend, and then a few miles here and there until a 250 mile road trip home come december 15th. Anyone speculate what may have caused this wierd sound?

you said your brakes squeal, and that you had this noise, until you stopped 1/4 mile down the road.
any chance you had sand or a small rock caught in your brakes?

the brake squeal always happens...i dunno why. I'll have my dealer look at it, but it seemed unreleated to my brakes. The sound came from under the chassie of the car and sounded more like "loose metal scrapping up on each other" rather than somehting wedged in and squeaking.

More than likely it was a small rock or pebble caught somewhere, maybe in the right front rotor, it will sound like it's coming from underneath the car, by the front, I'm guessing that's what it is.
