Warranty Extended on Center Console -- Thanks to me! :D
Hey guys,
The center console lights went out on my TSX for the second time a couple months ago, and this time was out of warranty. They had a cheaper fix this time, but it was still a couple hundred bucks to have the radio replaced.
I sent a long letter off to Acura Canada complaining about this obviously defective part that is installed in everyone's car and just last night I recieved a notice in the mail that the warranty on the center console lights has now been extended to 7 years / 160,000KM.
Now you can all thank me for being a sh!t disturber.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who complained, but it's good to know that Acura is stepping up to the plate on this issue.
I'm off to the dealer tonight to get a refund on the last repair.
Cheers,
Dan

That's great, Dan! I'm sure many people are very glad to hear this. However, I haven't received any notification about this or the headlight issue, so I'm hoping they have my info since I bought the car CPO, hence not the original owner. I get my monthly bills of course though, lol....
Great work, Dan! Can you by chance scan the letter and post it for anyone who might require it to prove to their stealership, that the warranty has in fact been extended?
Does it say anything about a permanent fix, or are they still just replacing the part(s) with possibly defective ones and hoping for the best?

We talked about this awhile back so I can't remember the details but Dan was one of the first to have his radio go out so Acura may not have fully understood the problem at that time and simply replaced it with another defective unit. Since then, they've changed the part number on the radio (I think) so we're hoping that people who had it repaired later (and from now on) got a re-engineered radio.

I'll scan the letter this evening, but you'll probably get one in the mail too.

If they work like every other Japanses based company, Acura Canada probably can't cut the grass at head office without consent from Acura USA so I wouldn't be too worried. Having said that, it would be ncie to have it in writing as well.

I noticed on the updated TSB link that Acura notified US dealers on January 23, 2007 about the 7 year/100,000 mile radio warranty extension.

I've had my tsx in the shop 5 times for this same problem. the last of which was this past weekend, and when I got to my car this evening the buttons dead! Only one day later!!!!!!!! The Acura service has been good in the fact that they gave me a car each time, and even though the car has an expired warranty they continue to attempt to address the issue. But enough is enough already. They said that there are faulty panels and the only solution to the problem is to change the panel with a new (but Faulty) Panel. The Service person said that this is the first time he has had this problem occur. It will be interesting to see what they say when I call them tomorrow morning.
So... I have an '04 TSX and the lights on the center console went out. I just noticed while driving home tonight and I'm sure they were working a couple of days ago.
How long does it take to get them fixed? How many of you had the same problem? I wonder how common it is.

My 04 TSX (that I bought in May of '03) has about 110K miles on it and the lights recently dimmed beyond visibility. Will Acura cover this? I called the dealer (Westchester, NY) and they said that I'd have to buy a new radio. They explained it as an electrical circuit board controling the console lights malfunctioning. Does anyone know if they will cover this replacment, or is there any way the replace this "circuit board?"
It's a known issue, but you are well past warranty. It wouldn't hurt to try calling Acura customer service and asking for a goodwill replacement. If they say no, they say no. You can also try another dealer. Good luck.

The fact there is a TSB on this will give you good ammunition to ask for them to cover it.
