Transmission Stuck in Drive

Something wierd happened to my '06 TSX on the weekend - the transmission stuck in drive! I couldn't move the shifter into neutral, only to third or into the self shift mode.

I parked the car in front of my house, turned it off (but of course couldn't get the key out - it was in drive) and locked it with the other keys. then on a "WTF" initiative, I unlocked it again and the transmission worked. The dealer, of course, could find nothing and evinced surprise it could even happen.

Anyone else had similar problems?

Nope, that's very strange. If it does it again, I'd take it to another dealer and see if they can figure it out.

I had a similiar problem on my 05. I then realized that if you try to push the gear lever straight up to park, it won't move. You have to move the lever slightly to the left when you want to shift to park from drive.

dunno if this is really related but a friend of mine had a simliar problem with his Land Rover. He parked the car and put it into park. Later he came back and it wouldn't move out of park. Thought he was going to have to get a new tranny, but turned out he had simply blown a fuse somewhere. Of course it's Land Rover which typically has electrical problems anyway.

Sounds like maybe the parking brake solenoid malfunctioned and somehow improperly engaged after the shifter was taken out of park. By shutting the ignition off and back somehow reset it. Hard to say without actually seeing it firsthand.

Since Honda and Acura use similar parts do you think there might be a connection?
