Is this thing German ?

After almost 8 months of owning a Milano Red 6MT, I still love the car and have almost 20K on it. But there have been problems.

Initially took the car back to place of purchase for rattles in both doors. After being verbally abused by the Assistant Service Manager(!), they pulled off both door panels and "insulated" the inner door panels. I changed service departments (for obvious reasons) and continued to have rattles in the doors. The new dealership (which treats me very well) accidentally cracked the door panel removing it....they ordered a new one and this corrected the problem on the passenger side only. Still a problem. Rattle at the door lock, sounds like its loose... Still no fix for the rattles. Buzzing sometimes all over the damn place, other times perfectly quiet.

The steering wheel vibration began at 13K. Dealer "resurfaced" rotors on second request. It completely resolved and is back again at 20K.

Most recently, the rear of the car became increasingly loud! Dealer diagnosed problem as "defective" wheel bearing and ordered necessary parts.

Finally, when using the stereo or CD player, I get an electric ticking sound that comes from the front right speaker for only a few seconds every so often. Never happens for the dealer, so has not been fixed.

I still love the car, but I tell ya, this sure isn't an Accord ! If I really wanted all of this, I would have bought an A4 just like I had planned. I've never owned anything but a Honda. There may be a Lexus in my future if this doesn't end.

Any suggestions ?

some folks have had some minor noises like you have had, fortunatly my car with 12k miles on it is noise free. i do have a buzz in the passenger speaker ill fix myself because rather than get aggravated at the dealer i know i can fix the problem correctly and i dont have to wait in line. i just havnt had the time to fix it yet.

the car is pretty new. i think some minor problems are to be expected.

the ticking may be because of cell phone interfearance.

tmobile and nextel cause that in almost all cars, others may have problems also

Stereo Ticking

Thanks a whole lot. I didn't know this. I use Nextel and the phone is on constantly in the car. Much appreciated.

I get the same random ticking sound in my Volkswagen with an AT&T phone, the weird thing was that it didn't start until I had the car for about 3 years.

Having owned 4 Audis, and as a present Audi allroad driver, the problems posted here are minor. My '96 A4 had over 40 trips to the dealer in 2 years. In 55K miles, my '02 allroad has gone through 4 sets of brake rotors, a complete shifter rebuild, multiple "check engine" events with failing sensors, and a major oil leak that took 4 days to repair. I owned 6 Accords and 2 Integras before switching to Audi for AWD. My wife's MDX never has any problems so here I am considering a TSX. I started out looking at the TL but the TSX has more headroom and a little better gas mileage.

I was under the impression that the TL wasn't far behind in gas mileage. But other threads have discussed that.

After all these complaints about various things, I do wish (of course) that the car had fewer of them, but I'm still not convinced it's any worse than it should be. I've had some minor rattles, but ever since I started noticing them, I have started noticing much worse ones in other cars.

I wish mine didn't get dirty so easily. I hope a coat of wax will help, but it might just be the colour.

BostonPaul. That was a great reply! Its what I was really hoping to hear. Don't get me wrong, I still really love this car. It's very rewarding to drive. You have very similar taste in automobiles as I do. We also have an Allroad in the family, not with as many problems though.
I've driven the TL. Its faster but has some torque steer when you really goose it off the line. This does not happen in the TSX.
I think you'd enjoy the car, even though the thing might just be German after all... Zer goot! (excuse the improper German spelling).

I agree with John, I had nearly an hour in a new TL and almost a week in a TSX, and ended up liking the TSX better for no torque steer, better balance on the twisties, and lighter sway off the line. The TSX is also the first four banger I would swear is a small V6 if blindfolded. I thought I'd swear off 4cyl forever but now I'm trying to figure out how I can swing the difference in $$ between my V6 CL 3.0 coupe and a new 6M TSX!
