I had the same problem, it almost sounds like my exhaust is scraping the road. When i aplly the brakes it willl go away, and is on and off. I blame to the brakes pads since i never replaced.

I believe that's a normal feature of all brake pads. I wonder why it would screech when you are not braking. Maybe a stuck caliper as well?

That's the wear indicator scraping on the rotor surface. Its a piece of metal that it attached to the pad. When the pad gets worn down to a certian level, you hear this.

Time to change your pads.

It's working just the way it should. If you hear it even when you're not braking, you're getting pretty close to the end of your pads. When you brake, you'll wear away just enough of the indicator to make it go away very temporarily, but it will come back. At some point, you'd be driving down the road squawking away, tapping the brakes lightly just to make the noise go away for the next 25 feet. Eventually, even that won't work and it will squawk continuously.

oh crap. i just posted a thread about this. I should have searched first. I am getting a similar metal scraping sound that seems like it is coming from the left rear brakes.. but it occurs while driving and not braking. And it is on and off. I wonder if changing the brake pads fixed the problem. I have a set of axxis ultimates that i haven't installed yet.

you better replace it before ruins the rotor... If it gets worst you gonna need to buy a new set of rotor.

you might want to take it to the local shop...without the right tools you can not do this. It shouldn't cost you too much for the new break job.

its not a hard job to do, but you'll want to get your rotors resurfaced. you can do it at home and bring the rotors in somewhere to get resurfaced and do the brakes yourself. make sure you check caliper pins to see if they move freely if not lube them. and lube the shims that go on the brake pads, you'll want to use a moly-paste type lube. other then that put back together the same way you took em apart.

I guess it was the pads. I swapped all four pads for the axxis ultimates, and i'm not experiencing that metal scraping noise anymore. The tech told me that the rear brakes were virtually gone and were rubbing. The front brakes were fine though.
