Temp gauge busted, got new thermostat...STILL not working!

Recently my temperature gauge just didn't go past Cold one day. Prior to this, it was having some spastic behavior, where it would go up to 1/2 or beyond. Freaking out, I checked the oil, and WAS about a quart low (gotta love this engine that just burns it up, but that's a whole other story), so i added some, and it returned to normal operating temp. Then it went up again, but the oil was fine, then the next day it just sat at cold, like I said. I had my 90k service recently ($700), and the told me coolant strength was great, so it wasn't that. Decided to bring it to Acura, they diagnosed it as a faulty thermostat, so I elected for them to put it in($167...NOT bad), although the gauge still sat at cold. THEN, they told me I needed a new "control module" because that seems to be the reason now. Price quote...$716 installed, $600 just for the part! I'm not under warranty, so this SUCKS. Anyone have experience with this? Am I being jerked around by the dealership?

Not to mention, I need my CV/axle joints done, due to vibration during acceleration. They're saying $900 for that, worst case scenario. UGH! Should I seek a 3rd party mechanic?

Love the car, but my baby is falling apart! With 93k on the odo, I'm contemplating getting something with low miles, under warranty.

axles installed for 900? hell no, actually F*ck no. I could have mine rebuilt for $300 bucks and that's with the shop doing all the work. If i pull them myself, which i did, it would have been $120 bucks if something was wrong with them.

Hell, you can get them from a vendor here (i think it's "excellerate") for i think $300 for both axles and then any shop can install honda axles. there's nothing special about them and shouldn't take more then an hour assuming they're not busy. It only took me 45 minutes and I was in my yard with a jack and hand tools. I say go somewhere else.

Make them pay you back for the thermostat. Also, if you're having that many problems...maybe you should just sell the car and get the next gen =D

There is defintely a point of diminishing returns for older cars with going to a dealer for service.

Look in the Yellow Pages for a "honda/acura" specialist and try them. Youl lget the same "knowledge" for half the cost.

Ivcurvs:

I definitely know an Acura/Honda shop that I'm gonna check out about this axle business.

Visuelz:

Taking these problems into account, I went to go check out what a new car would cost me. I kinda like the VW GLI. I've driven one before, very tight Lacking on the luxury part a little compared to the TSX, it's definitely sportier, although a tad goofier looking. Anyways, VW only offered me 9k for my car, AFTER insulting me with an initial offer of 8k. I was Bullshit! KBB and NADA quote a value of 14k with 93,000 miles. He said I was dreaming and no one would offer me over 10k. I dunno man, asshole dealer. I wonder what Honda/Acura would offer me?

BTW, I've seen pics of the next gen euro Accord wagon (face of the TSX?) What's everyone thinking? They gonna do a Type S with SH-AWD? That would be sick, but prolly not the price tag of 33-34k withOUT nav.
