Strange Noise When Sitting at a Stop (Not in Park)
Strange Noise When Sitting at a Stop (Not in Park)
I don't post much in here because I'm usually able to find out what I need from other people's posts, but this situation is one I'm not sure what it is related to.
I have a 2006 TSX auto transmission with 183,000+ miles. Whenever I'm sitting at a complete stop at a red light, I hear a funny noise that almost sounds like pinging popcorn with a mix of a sputtering fan?
The noise doesn't occur right away (don't hear it at stop signs) and it will go away as soon as I left my foot off the brake pedal.
I've had my serpantine belt replaced within the last few months, so I know it is not that.
When I pop the hood with the engine running and car in park, no strange sounds.
Any advice and cures would be appreciated.

Thanks for the responses.
The sound definitely goes away in neutral and I don't notice it as much when in park, if there is one at all. I guess I will have to get the transmission checked out then.
Any chance it has to do with a catalytic converter? Just had my emissions test done recently and the error code from the test means either I need to replace an O2 gauge or replace the catalytic converter.

It ended up being a rusted and loose shield for the cat converter. They just removed it. Anyone know if I should get a new one or if I can make do without it? I would think it was there for a reason. Mechanic said just don't drive over dry grass.
