Strange feeling in the break pedal when slowing over coarse pavement

When I an slowing over coarse pavement or loose gravel I feel a strange feeling in the brake pedal. I think it have to do with the anti-lock system. Is it normal?

If it feels like a vibrating or pulsing feeling, it's the ABS kicking in...the car brakes the wheels and, since you're on a surface with very little traction (friction), the wheels lock up. The ABS sees this and tries to remedy it. You'll of course get the same thing happening on ice and other slick surfaces.

So, if it's that, it's totally normal.

It might be your VSA kicking in too.

I believe the VSA uses the ABS to control the car...it also controls throttle, which you'd not feel through the brake pedal (you'd see it on the tach, though).
