I have an 06 and mine started doing this too as the weather got colder. If anyone gets any definitive updates on this issue I would definitely like to hear it.

A few months back the dealer kept my car for 2 days but said they could not reproduce the noise, and therefore could not attempt to fix it. Has anyone else heard the same policy?

Their suggestion was to bring the car back in the winter, which I'll be doing next week.

The noise happens every day now, when it's cold, as usual. Here's a sound clip:

I think I may have a related problem in my 2004 - On a full turn left or right the steering seems lose power (becomes hard for a second) coming just before as I start to straighten out. It is most prevalent when back out of a spot. There is enough fluid - I checked.

Yup, that's the noise - happens when turning off center either way with my 06.

Yes that's very similar to the noise I have. I can't believe they weren't able to duplicate that noise. I had my dealer lubricate the steering rack, but to no avail.

There are no places to lubricate the steering rack. It's a sealed assembly.

I have a similar problem. But mines comes on during cold morning, driving up my inclined driveway, gasing while turning and it's loud.

I read a few thread and maybe its the rack and pinion or maybe the throw out bearing.

found this thread through google too

I went to the acura dealer today (Gillman Acura) and they found that the power steering rack is leaking. They consider I have it changed out for $1919 before tax! FML
I just replaced the clutch not too long ago outside of acura, it was a total rip off too.

What are the warranty coverages for this year and model at 61k miles? I know the basic warranty ends at 50,000. I heard there is another warranty that covers something with the drive train around at 70,000. Is the power steering rack not covered by the 70,000 miles warranty?

I forgot to mention that it does make a squeaking noise every now and then, and on certain bumps, turns or engaging the clutch. I found that the left boot of the steering rack is leaking fluid which I think is power steering fluid because I do check the reservoir and it does drain within three months or so. I just kept refilling it til now.

oh, I see now. It's a powertrain limited warranty, not drive train.
The basic warranty covers for 50,000 miles/4 years
Powertrain warranty covers for 70,000 miles/6 years

i found the info at:
http://www.concept/vehicle/z10592/Acura-TSX.aspx

Is the powertrain a standard warranty that comes with the car or is it an extended warranty option?

the squeek rubber to rubber sound is coming from the rack. replace the rack to solve the squeek problem.
my guess is rust or worn inner seals.

2007 Acura TSX Steering Wheel Noise Squeak

Hello All,

I went to the dealer and my car has 60,300 miles and I do have a extended warranty. Dealer said that because the noise happens and they think its a steering column issue and its not a broken steering column issue , it would not be covered under extended warranty.

I told the dealer that this is ridiculous because if it has a squeak noise that means something is failing and if they cant fix it that means it could at any time break and cause accident. Dealer refuses to open the steering column and inspect it. They say that this is not a safety issue. However , god knows if this is safety issue or not. I refuse to wait until something happens. I told them about Toyota and said that Toyota has breaks, gas pedal issue and what did they do? wait till accidents happen and now they are doing something about it.

I told them if they refuse to fix it I am going to 7 ON YOUR SIDE to investigate. I don't want to be a next victim because Acura refuses to fix issues.

what if you do replace the column and the noise doesnt go away. warranty wont pay for items that aren't defective.

even with the power steering rack replaced under warranty, the problem came back about 5K miles ago...

i called up my service advisor and he said "american honda is aware of the problem - that the noise comes back even after replacing the power steering rack". there is no apparent fix as of yet... no TSB either...

I brought the car in today for the steering wheel whining every day and a rear door actuator that hums once in a blue moon.

The dealer couldn't reproduce the steering wheel whine so they won't fix it. I wonder if the temperature has any effect on it.

The funny thing is that they're actually going to replace the rear door actuator. My results from the trip to the dealer is opposite of what I expected. I only pointed out the rear door hum so that they can document it for a future trip.

I was told it was a "grommet" on my vehicle ... which could be a "seal" ... but it doesn't in any effect steering. I didn't interrogate the service manager if the tech removed the cover and inspected, or just recognized the symptom and has seen the same issue before....

BTW, I have been turning a bit more slowly when I start the car up, and haven't heard the squeak/groan for many months, including some frightfully cold weather (for NC). Doesn't mean it fixed itself, just that the audible annoyance has abated.

A power steering system that is leaking ~90% fluid over 90 days is, what I believe they call, "broken." I would get 'er fixed. Period. Full stop.

Anyone get this resolved successfully? The weather has been getting in the 60s in the morning lately, and mine is still squeaking. It's better than when it was cold, but it is still doing it. The dealer could not reproduce it once, should I try again? Not sure what they could do at this point.

All my squeaking is gone. I took my car in about 2 months ago and the dealer couldn't recreate the noise or fogging headlights and didn't want to do anything. Finally, I complained enough to have them ask their regional manager and confirmed there were similar problems. He approved 2 new headlights, new pwr steering rack and pinion. So far so good no squeaks or moans, don't give up.

Dealer replaced the rack on my car after finally hearing the noise. It's been a few weeks and the noise hasn't returned.

I did get it back with a new clattering noise, which they said was an incorrectly reinstalled transmission mount, and then a rubbing noise from the clutch pedal, which turned out to be a plastic panel under the steering column that was only partially reinstalled and hanging too low.
All good now though.

Since this squeak is so intermittent, I gave up on the idea of leaving the car at the dealer for a week or so. Instead, I jacked the front end up and turned each wheel in and out several times. I did hear a squeaking sound which seemed to be coming from each upper ball joint seal - typical metal-on-rubber sound. I never heard any other noise from the steering rack or any other place. The service writer at Gunn Acura did mention a grommet at the firewall around the steering shaft, so maybe that's another area. BTW, my '06 has about 40k miles now.

A-ha! Service technician at one of my local Acura dealers also identified a "grommet." I couldnt' find such a part in the IPB. Thanks for disclosing where it is....

Two days before the warranty expired, I took my intermittently squeaking 06 to Gunn Acura in San Antonio for resolution. The service advisor drove the car around the lot and it squeaked for him - he remarked that his 04 with 70k miles randomly makes the same noise too. Seated in the passenger seat, it sounded like the noise came from near the top of the steering column to me. With me driving, it sounds farther away ... like at the firewall or beyond. Anyhow, he suspects it's the "clock spring" making the noise. He described the clock spring as the bus that is the communication path for the steering wheel buttons, lights and airbag to the various control modules. Since there were no warning lights for the air bags, he refused to proceed with any repair. I insisted that he note the issue on the vehicle history so that if the thing ever fails, there is a record of my complaint.

Started to notice this sound too. Usually happens in the cold mornings for me. I thought it was nothing big and easy to fix but doesn't seem like it.

I'm a little surprised that no one updated this thread with TSB 10-025 for steering wheel noise.

It's listed on the forum FAQ page.

From your description of leaking fluid, you sound like a prime candidate for TSB 10-025, which (if I read it right) identifies failed seals inside the rack and pinon steering shaft.

As for those of us who have an occasional "groan," steps 25, 35, 39 of the TSB show a "pinion shaft grommet" that is somewhat accessible, Leith Acura service rep said that they have people come in from time to time with "noise" complaints and the technicians lube this grommet to resolve the problem. About a 5-10 minute job, which tells me that no disassembly is required.
