Steering wheel shakes when brake at high speeds

I noticed lately that the steering wheel on my 2006 TSX shakes when I brake hard at high speeds. Usually happens when I have to slow down quickly on the highway for traffic or when getting off on the ramp. Doesn't happen if I brake lightly or when driving 45 or under.

Based on my research, looks like this is most likely due to warped rotors. My questions are is this something that needs to be addressed immediately? Could something really go wrong if I don't have them replaced? Also, what cost should I expect for replacing the front rotors and pads?

Thanks in advance.

It could be warped rotors or deposits bedded into the rotors. Both cause shuddering during braking.

Out of curiosity though do you also have vibrations when accelerating or at 60mph?
I ask because my brakes have a little bit of shuddering right now and I plan on replacing my rotors, which are old anyways. But I also recently replaced the inner cv joint on my passenger axle.

I had noticeable vibrations when braking before my cv joint replacement. After the fix the shuddering during high speeds stopped. I still get a little at low speeds but the vibrations were kinda bad before my repair. Now they just feel like I need a brake job and nothing alarming.

Nope. Only shudders when braking.

I had the same thing on my 06 TSX with high speed braking only. I had the original front pads/rotors for +85,000 miles when it really started to get bad. Once I replaced the pads and turned the rotors, I am all good again (+105,000 miles now). I stuck with OEM brakes because the TSX is only a commuter car for me instead of the main family hauler. I figured another 7 yrs and 90,000 miles on OEM brakes was pretty good investment.

Thanks mrgold. Do you remember off the top of your head how much this cost? Did you have it done at the dealership or somewhere else?

I normally hit up RockAuto and get aftermarket rotors for 50 a piece and name brand ceramic pads for 20 bucks. I do the whole thing for 120 dollars.

Brake shops would charge around 300 for just the front, another 200 for the back. Worst case would be 700 for all 4 corners at a shop. Do it yourself, save the money.

I have to agree that the rotors is the problem. You can get them turned if there's still some meat on them.

I think its about time for me to get new rotors too. I purchased some cheap drilled and slotted rotors from ebay about a two years ago. They are crap and warped up. I feel they're like cheese graters eating up the brake pads. I'm going back to blanks.

Had the exact same issue, thought it was a tire balance or tire alignment issue but I took it to a pepboys and they said i had warped rotors and also needed new pads. My friend is the service manager there so it was relatively cheap. I didn't get any special rotors or pads. I will note that since the rotors and pads aren't name brand my brakes do squeak when I brake suddenly or when im braking and coming to a stop.

Have you tried braking hard on various locations?...Mine does this sometimes and not other times. I think, in my case, it may be due to rolls/imperfections in the pavement. Try braking hard when using the inside lane of a freeway that does not have much heavy truck traffic.
