SRS Light Comes on . . . sometimes while driving

I am not sure why my SRS light is coming up sometimes when I am driving. Usually it will do a check when you first start and the light goes off, but then sometimes when I am driving it suddenly appears, I don't know when it even comes on.

If I am having a problem with the SRS system, shouldn't it light up and stay lit?

I am not sure if it is related, but I was involved in more of a bumper bender a few months ago (no air bags deployed) and I am not sure if this is linked, but the last has only started to show up a few times over the past couple of weeks.

I wonder how much it would cost for Acura/Honda repair to diagnose and maybe it is because of a botch body repair job, but then I would want to go after the body shop who guarantees their repairs. I just don't want to get stuck with paying for the diagnosis fee, which I am scared could be outrageous just because this is electrical.

Any ideas? Thanks.

I noticed when a friend is leaning near one of the side air bags in the car the light would come on. It would turn off when he moves away from it.

Complain to the body shop first - it's likely they messed up a connector or the wiring harness to the bumper sensor.

It's supposed to do that. There's some sort of sensor that tells the bolster airbag not to deploy if some one/thing is in the way. It's a safety feature so you don't get pummeled to death by your own car.

It's in the manual.

Also happens if the person in the passenger seat is under a certain weight, or leans forward or a direction away from the seat.

I finally figured out what the problem was. It is related to the seat belt locking into the buckle. If I slightly press the release button, the belt is released, but the sensor (light) that tells you to buckle up is not triggered (read no light), after a couple of seconds the SRS light will come on.

I think when I was driving, the belt would probably not be fasten correctly and after a hard turn, the above happens. I will probably lube up the buckle and see if this helps.

Saved myself a trip to the dealership...
