Single clunk/grind while going forward after reverse

I've recently noticed that my 2005 AT (~12K miles) has started making a clunk or grinding noise under the following conditions:

-Car is off, has been parked for a span of at least an hour
-Start car, take off e-brake, put in reverse
-Back out of parking space (I don't think it matters if I turn one way or the other), so this is going backwards for 1.5~2 car lengths
-Shift to drive

Within about 1 car length, I will have felt a clunk/grind lasting for a 1/4 second at most. I can just barely hear it, but I can feel it through my foot when it's on the accelerator.

Any ideas what this might be from what I've described?

It's happend 5-6 times now in the last 3-4 days probably. I need to keep paying more attention to locate the triggers for it, and will post those observations as I get them.

That sounds like the normal ABS self test.

I have the same problem and I don't think is the ABS selftesting because on my
06 accord AT the sound/vibration is somehow random.
Sometimes the vibration is not appearing in the same conditions ...and sometimes
is more powerful then other times.

also I tryed to pull hard the handbrake before shifting into Parking and the sound
is less freqvent....and is more powerful if you start the car into rear and the drive.

what selftest is that and why my pedal vibrates ?!

p.s. sorry for my english (east-european member here)

Has anyone else had this "clunk" problem? If so, how did you fix it? I am getting this same symptom (almost after every reverse-forward switch now) and can't figure out what it is.

Thanks!

ok, uhh im probably wrong...but i have a clunk sound in my 2000 and 2002 accord automatics.... i have a driveway sloping down so when im rolling down it in neutral, and i throw it in drive or reverse while its still kinda rolling ( D4 if im rolling forward, R if backward, etc), ill hear it go "CLACK" right after i put it in gear but not like too loud or anything, i guess its just the gear going into place? like it sounds completely normal, i've heard others' cars do it too just my 2 cents...oh and nothing is wrong with the transmissions, cause when i first heard the sound i freaked out and took them back to the dealer while they were under warranty

Thanks for reply.
It does not seem to be a transmission problem. I have a manual, and the sound occurs after I already drove forward a few feet.

sounds like it's coming from the bottom left of the engine right? you kinda feel it on the brakes/gas pedal?

Yes, left side of the engine bay. At first I thought that it was related to my left wheel; but since others are getting it on the left side as well, I not so sure any more...

I heard that it may be ABS self-test, but it just doesn't sound right at all.

Any other ideas?

I know it's quite common on the AT accords (I used to frequent several accord boards before I got my TSX).

The TSX does an ABS self-test when you drive off after the car has been sitting for a while. My family even noticed it when I first got my 6MT TSX and was worried that maybe my car was already messed up.

It's definitely the ABS test, nothing to worry about.
