Short shifter and cable bushings

I recently got the CT short shifter and cable bushings installed but have noticed that it's a little harder than I expected to get it to first gear. Reverse is fine, but first takes more force to get to than it seems it should. Does anyone know of a way to make it a bit smoother again, or have similar issues?

Did you use any lube on the base when you installed the S/S? If not, that could be the problem.

Also, give it a couple of weeks. My S/S was a bit course for a while, too, but it got better after some use.

^ I agree; a little retraining of the palm may be required.

all of the above mentions and get the skunk 2 weighted shift knob. that alone solved most of my stiff shifting issue.

Yes. The cable bushings will make it harder to shift. Does shifting feel heavier? At least it did for me. I don't know whether I've gotten used to it or the shift cables loosened up, but it feels easy to shift know. I don't have the same focus that I had before when trying to shift, it all comes naturally now.

But once in awhile, shifting to first takes a little focus.

I have a weighted shift knob, but it's not the skunk2 knob. I added some lithium grease to the bottom of the short shifter and that seemed to help. Guess I didn't have enough the first time around. It seems to be loosening up through use, or I'm just getting used to it. Maybe I'll have my sister take it for a quick spin and see if she notices it.

i too have noticed mine especially hard to move left for 1st and 2nd.. I must try this lithium grease solution.. I've had the base bushings, cable bushings, and ss for about 2 years... so I guess that's not bad.. I've never done this greasing stuff before..I guess I'll have to see it when i buy the lithium grease lol.
