Scheduled maintenance
Scheduled maintenance
Hey everyone, my car just reached 100k miles and I have some questions about servicing the vehicle.
When I originally purchased the car a little over a year ago, I took it to the local Acura dealer to have everything inspected just to make sure things were in order. They did some basic service at that time, from what I remember an oil change, balance & rotate tires, and a multipoint inspection.
The manager I spoke with at that time mentioned waiting to service some other parts of the car until I hit 90k miles and they would do a 30k mile service then.
I ended up scheduling the 30k service and the person I spoke to had quoted me a rather high price so I asked her to double check and when she returned she had a much lower price (~$300 vs $800 original). I ended up not making the appointment, missing the service.
Like I said the car is now at 100k, 10k over the 90k mark so I decided to reschedule the 30k service. Unfortunately, they are not honoring the previous quote and insisting the service will cost ~$800.
Now typically I do basic service on my cars (oil, brakes, filters, etc.) so I decided to hold off on having them work on it for now. I thought I would see what you all thought about my situation.
The lady said that they would be performing the following:
Oil change
Tranny flush
Brake inspection
Balance/Rotate tires
Engine air filter
Cabin air filter
Multipoint inspection
Various other inspections (lights, fuel lines, etc.)
As I said, I am comfortable changing the oil, air filters, brakes, and what not. Are there any other services I should perform on the car at this time? Would you all recommend I do the work myself or go ahead and have them provide the 30k service?
Thanks for your time, I appreciate any input and advice.

If it is a tl then the timing belt at 105k miles. Spark plugs, coolant change. Brake fluid should be changed every 3 years. Transmission fluid should not be flushed-should be drained and filled.if your car has the maintenance minder follow that. $800.00 is too high. Call other acura dealers or Honda dealers

At 105k, the valves MAY need adjustment.
Tranny flush...nah, just drain and refill...
Filters are easy...
You rotate tires, you check brakes at same time...
Oil change most easily done with passenger tire off too...
While the tires are off, inspect all the CV joint covers for leaks and tears, check all components for movement or looseness, etc...
You should probably lubricate a number of surfaces (hinges and such) with an appropriate lubricant.
Unless you know a coolant change has been done, do that too.

ugh this is the second time now that I have lost my reply for some reason. Anyway, thank you both for the replies!
I forgot to mention my ride is a 05 TSX A/T. Does the timing chain apply here? what about the rest; spark plug, tranny, coolant? How about the filters and brakes? Like I said, I typically do basic maintenance on my vehicles (oil changes, brakes, etc). My main concern is whether or not I should bother having the dealer service it or do the work myself? Unfortunately, they are the only Acura dealer in town. I will have to check for a Honda dealer. Ultimately if I cannot get the cost down to under $500 I will do it myself regardless.
I will check my book for the reminder card. I do have the original case and manual, all that good stuff that comes with the car. If not, I am hoping to compile a list with the help of everyone here.
Thanks again

The timing chain does not have a service interval, and with regular oil changes, should not need attention. If you have your owner's manual, the answers to all of your maintenance questions (and many more) are in there. It provides a complete maintenance and service schedule. Who does the service work is pretty much up to you. Most of it you can do yourself if you're handy under the hood.
