Rough Idle

I am curious about an idle problem. My car noticeably idles rough until it warms up. I want to know if anyone has had similar problems.

I only have 560 miles and it is a 05. I am really having a hard time justifying keeping the car because of rough idle, loud motor noise, rattles...

At any rate, the first thing you guys should do is bring it back to your dealership and have it checked out. It'll be all covered by warranty, and you will have nothing to pay for.

It may be just a small electrical or sensor problem. Nothing major.

Hey it can be very possible that they have a rough idle.

Who are you to doubt about it? What brings you to say it's buyer's remorse?

That was just a ridiculous answer from you, what's more, it wasn't anything close to being helpful.

I'm guessing he has an AT. The rough idle is a pretty common problem that we've herard several times on this board. My car has the same problem and it goes away once warmed. I don't think there's anything the dealer can do but t won't hurt to ask.

Well in the case of an AT, that's pretty normal. The torque converter fluids offer good resistance, and that is what makes it work. When the fluid is cold and dense, and engaged while idling, the troque converter will transmit a lot more engine vibration then when the fluid is heated up to spec.

opinions are like everybody has one. Your answer was just as "ridiculous" because 90% of the questions on here could be answered with "take it back to the dealer". My answer was just not "helpful" but it's what I think.

And anyway it's not like this is such a :gheyhug: place and usually it's the mods that are the first to attack. Please see my Outgassing thread if you need a reference.

This thread is going downhill fast.

Biker, who doesn't have a rough idle but a "hunting" idle (dips to 500rpm once in a while and then back to the normal) and wonders what could be causing that.

My idle varies a little bit, but it's done that on every car I have ever owned so it doesn't worry me. My thought is that this can be attributed to the ECU adjusting the ignition for emissions purposes.

You little whiner. I stood up for you in that thread. But you get the answers you deserve, don't whine for it like you did there.

And yes, the mansauce is a prick. It's all related:

Once my car is warmed up it is hard to tell it is on. Warming up the engine is a rough idle, but that is expected and it only lasts 1-2 min.

Thanks for the responses guys, I thought my case was an isolated one. I just bought the car and I was really expecting it to be perfect (no noises perfect idle). I love the looks and I am very impressed with the 4 cly power, little things bother me though; I hope you all understand.

Mine idles rough for the first few minutes too, regardless of it being cold outside or not. Not a big deal IMHO, I've not been concerned enough to take it to the dealer.

Mine idles roughly as well.

I always thought it was one of TSX's characteristics.

No way, a modern car such as the TSX should not idle rough all the time... maybe an odd time once awhile

I wonder if your PS pump noise and your rough idle have something to do with each other

It idles roughly until the engine heats up a bit..and I don't think it has any correlation with the PS pump since it's been like that since day 1.

My GSR had a very smooth idle-I wouldn't call my TSX rough, but it is definitly not as smooth as the 1.8L GSR engine. I wouldn't worry too much about it. If something is really up the "service engine light" or "check engine light" whatever you want to call it will come on.

Most 4 clylinders vibrate. Thats why you rarely see a 4 banger larger than 2.5L's. You'd need large or several balance shafts to keep things smooth.

I know this is old, but..do you guys with newer TSX's experience this? My 6spd 2008 TSX has been doing this since I bought it, it's almost like it "misses" a beat on a cold idle. Once the car's at operating temperature (and has been driven a bit) it goes away.

I'm not counting on my dealership to be able to "duplicate" this, so if it's a normal thing I'll just have to live with it..

Did you ever solve this problem? I have an '08 with very little mileage that has a rough/vibrating/erratic idle when I'm stopped and its worse when the engine isn't warmed up yet. I've take it to the dealer 3 times and they have done stuff but not figured it out yet.
