Reving question

I have an 2004 Acura TSX manual and recently found out that i can only rev my engine up to 4 1/2 rpms when car is in neutral. Other than that, all 6 gears can go past 4 1/2 rpms.

Does anyone know whats causing this issue.

Do you have the parking brake engaged while in neutral?

It's the limiter, a feature that helps to prevent premature wear on engine parts. Unless car is in gear, you can only rev it to 4,500 RPM.

If I recall correctly, this is normal. When not in motion and in neutral gear, the rev limiter is 4500rpm.

I tried with the hand breaks down and still the same. I figured its odd to have a limiter at neutral.
i also tried pressing in the clutch and reving and same results.

Why rev past 4500 when you're not in gear?

Did you have your foot on the brake?

I see. So you did not have the parking brake engaged, nor had your foot on the brake?

Maybe the car has to be in motion...

Okay, the car has to be in motion in order for the engine to be rev'd over 4000 rpms.

That's what we were trying to tell you, and it's normal to prevent engine damage.
