Reversing noise

In the mornings, (cold start) while reversing out of my driveway, there's a very loud and obnoxious squealing that goes on (until my car warms up), and since the noise goes away after the car has warmed up, I can't pinpoint the noise at all, and it's driving me nuts.

Any ideas?

Also my steering is making a few odd noises as well.

Does the noise change when you hit the gas/rev the engine? Probably belts needing tightening or replacement. Could be a good time for some pullies too

Is it in the rear of the car? Change when you hit the brakes at all? If so, you need new rear brake pads.

Steering...some moaning and groaning is kinda normal. May want to flush and replace the fluid.

How many miles do you have?

Marcus

Car is at 32000 miles, noise is in the rear of the car. The noise is existent when not even touching the brakes or accelerator which is why it's stumping me.

my 04 does this as well, i just put it in 1st gear, before putting it into reverse, and for some reason, that makes the sound no longer happen.

It's really weird. It's definitely not coming from the transmission. I had a friend stand by the rear of the car and listen carefully, it sounds like it's coming from the rear brakes, but at the same time it doesn't seem like the brakes because the sound disappears and when I release my foot from the brake and let it coast in reverse, it still makes the noise. Also the pads still have a good amount of life left.

Could it be some sort of bearing?

that post has a lot of different theories.

pebble stuck between the pad and the rotor
stuck dust shield
low brake fluid
pads

either way, it sounds like it definitely has something to do with your rear brakes.

brake squeal during reverse when cold

My 04 TSX does the same thing. Someone at the dealership told me that it is normal for that type of brake when it is cold. When it is warm I do not hear the sound.

I'm probably going to end up leaving it at the stealership overnight and just getting a loaner.

I'll let you guys know what happens.

Thing is, I have a 5AT. I've tried throwing it into Drive and it still makes the noise even after in drive (for 1 second).

Marcus, I have a horrible itching that says you're probably right.

The car did have an issue with one of the rear brakes locking before, and I wouldn't be surprised if it happened again..

Your brakes are always touching the rotors whether or not you have stepped on the brake pedal. This way the brakes will bite when you need it to.

By the way, if I drive very aggressively, my front brakes will squeal like crazy when stopping. After not driving for 10 minutes and then driving, the squeal is gone.
