Rear windshield broken

I was at a friend's house about 2 hours ago and heard a loud crashing noise outside and we found my rear windshield to have about a 2 inch hole in lower right corner. Some asshole threw a rock at it and broke it. The rest of the glass is shattered and is still being held up by the tint.

I haven't called any windshield repair shops as it is 2 am here. I made a P.D. report and all. How much does a windshield cost and whats the process if anyone knows? I've never had this happen to me so any help is greatly appreciated

Wow! What the heck. Sounds like some people with nothing else better to do than to vandalize a car.

I just had the front windshield replaced on my '06 TSX by the dealer. The front windshield and replacement seal came to ~$750 w/tax, and the labor was an additional $200. My insurance paid for it, less my deductible, under my comprehensive policy. A number of co-workers have used services that actually come to your house or work and replace windshields (using aftermarket parts) for about $250.

rear windshields are expensive to replace since you have the little heat wires in them.. so your looking at a lot for the windshield alone and look to spend around 300 ish for the labor

apparently none of the shops here carry the glass. one shop said that only the dealer carries it and could replace it. only problem is that i live 160 miles away from the dealer. i dont know if this is covered in my extended warranty that i purchased, i'd have to check.

one place said it would cost 160. the website that PACman provided me with says that glass is over 400 alone. i'm hesitant to go with places that charge anything less than that because i dont know where they're getting their glass from.

For $160, I would assume a generic glass and NOT OEM.

Unsure about glass quality. A visible difference would be the borders, and getting the antenna to come with it, since our antenna's are attached to the glass (unless you run XM, then you should have a fin on your roof). I'd be more concerned with front windshield quality, rather than rear.

well i have XM so i guess i dont have to worry about the antenna thing. a co-worker's parents own an auto glass shop and he told me that the only one they could find was about 650 bucks with the full kit (clips, molding). I think i'll get the windshield off that website PACman provided me with and have them install that one since it'll cost about 475 only.

Any updates? $650 sound about right installed since there are defroster lines and an antenna in it. The place that said $160 was in for a big surprise when it came time to do it. Basically a miss quote. Hopefully the installer doesn't scratch any of the paint beneith the seals becuase it will rust like crazy if they do. Same thing with windshields.

well i left the car at my parents house since they have a carport. I did it just in time too since it started raining last night and hasn't let up since. I asked a shop if I could order the OEM windshield and have them install it. They said it would be fine but the only problem is that if my windshield is damaged in anyway during the install process, they couldn't be held liable for it...only if it was a windshield THEY ordered. so whatever.... my dad said he would take care of it for me.

I'm paying for it of course and I stressed to my dad how important it was that I get at least a decent quality windshield and labor... so we're going with this shop that asked for about 400 bucks.
