Rear bumper damaged - need suggestions

I wokeup this morning to find that some jerk had backed up into my car overnight and damaged the rear bumper! Hopefully the underbody air diffuser was not damaged as well.

What's wrong with people? Can't they see a parked car?!?!?

Anyways, I'm think I have a few choices and wanted to get everyone's opinions on them:

1) Leave it - looks fugly though
2) Get the OEM bumper and paint to match - approx $600-$700 for bumper, paint and labor?
3) Get a different rear bumper cover - don't know which one though
4) Fix and repaint the current bumper - not sure if this can be fixed.

I looked into getting an A-Spec body kit but the rear bumper cover piece is probably too short and will not cover up the damage.

Any other options?

Also, my deductible is $500. I'm guessing that it's still cheaper to just fix it myself than to get insurance to payout and pay whatever the increase in my premium is over the next couple years?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

The A-Spec kit rear piece doesn't go high enough to cover the damage... I checked another thread (lost the URL) and looked at the pics - it doesn't go above the edge which is where I have that chunk taken out of the bumper.

Here's that thread with a good pic of an A-Spec rear bumper - too low to cover up the damage.

Any other suggestions?

Did it hit your gas tank? It looks like the damage goes all the way to the tank.

I don't think any rear skirt will cover it. It's too high.

The gas tank? I'm not sure how far the gas tank goes back though... the dent is an inch or two at most deep.

I didn't smell any gas when I was inspecting the damage. I'll go under the car this evening to double check, can't see much because of the air diffuser though.

So looks like I'll be repairing or replacing with an OEM bumper cover and out of my own pocket - I forgot that my collision deductible is $1000 (only my comprehensive is $500)... argh.

Sorry to hear about that. Hope everything gets resolved. I hate it when people drive off like that. I parked my previous bimmer at work once and some idiot backed into it and then drove off. You KNOW they 100% felt that becuase the bumper was literally dug into by the corner or something. Man... i was so mad that day.

Yeah, I was pretty pissed that people are dumb enough to hit a parked car and then run away when they know they've messed up someone else's ride.

I feel like pulling a CSI, analyze the paint transfer and hunting the person down!

I'm also pissed because I would've rather spent the money getting Hondata'fied and and a new RSB.

Here's another pic, I'm going to take it to a shop tomorrow to see if it's a repair or replacement job (unless my gas tank blows up!):

i just pick up my car form the acura body shop, i got accident last 2 weeks, in the rear bumper..
to get a new bumper, it'll cost u $316.51 for the bumper, $326.80 for the paint labor, so it will be $643.31 total.. (that's what the receit said)
but if the damage in ur bumper was too deep, and scratch some kind of steel layer inside of it, u're gonna pay $201.40 extra and $125.37 for extra paint and materials.. hope it helps..

i ur car doesnt need a new bumper, just go to the dealer bodyshop, and get a repaint

I feel your pain. I too got a "hit and run" from some asshat over the weekend. I have an inch or two scratch of red paint on my front bumper, plus some of my SSM paint taken off. Getting a new bumper Friday though. There were a couple more minor scratches I wanted taken off, and it was going to cost $477 just to retouch it, so I sprung for the whole bumper at $763 instead...couple hundered bucks more and I get a fresh start. People who disrepect other people's property SUCK.
