Rear Bumper, Advice?

Hey Acurazine!

To start I am a relatively new member here at AZ and own a 2005 Acura TSX. Anyway the story goes I spent Friday evening waxing and polishing my Fathers new 2008 Camry while waiting for the wax to haze over, I got into my TSX to run to the local convince store. I was waiting to make a right turn onto a relatively busy street, and was hit square from behind on the passenger side, of the rear bumper at approximately rolling speed 5-8 km/h. The driver was an old lady in a Mercedes Benz. On initial inspection there was no body damage just a slight indent where the bumper meets the exhaust pipes, the curvature line. It’s nothing really to obsess about right? I cleaned it the next day and inspected where the rear bumper meets the passenger side rear quarter panel, the gap has widened. Furthermore the rear door and the passenger door body gaps seem to have shifted, there not flush like how they were when it was new. I am sorry if this sounds kind of confusing, should I let Acura take a look at it? What would they do about it? Or do you guys think I am stressing over small details that only I would be able to see.

Any input would be helpful.
Garry.

Take it to a reputable body shop. Unless your dealer has a body shop or one they deal with often, they won't do body work. You can call them for a recommendation if you want, though. Good luck.

Shifting door gaps doesn't sound good. Must be more damage there than is easily visible. Agree with the body shop advice. Make sure they specialize in or at least have plenty of experience with frame straightening. Hope you got that ladies insurance info as this has the potential for being an expensive fix.

The bumper is just a bumper cover...there might have been damage underneath, and now it's starting to sag or something...

As mentioned before, I'd have a reputable body shop look at it. When someone hit my parked TSX, I went to 3-4 body shops, and they all inspected it and gave their estimates. The adjuster then had the bumper removed so he can see if there were any internal damage.

Always trade insurance information....you never know how bad it can be.

Thanks for the great advice guys, I am going to let my local dealer have the bumper removed and inspected. Luckily I did swap insurance information because it was raining out while the accident occurred and I was not able to determine if anything was wrong with my bumper at the time.

Good call, you want to always make sure you swap info, even for something that may seem minor or trivial at the time because you may not notice anything at the time. If it were me, I'd want my car in perfect pristine condition at all times, and if I can get it fixed on someone else's dollar, then I should be able too, especially when its not my fault.
