Real Quality Concern

First off I would like to say that I am glad to see a group of people together like this to break down the real experience of owning a specific car such as the TSX. I am a huge Honda fan, making this purchase my 4th. I must say outside of it’s striking lines, and in my opinion, fantastic exterior I am a bit disappointed with Acura’s quality overall. I would characterize myself as a “hard driver.” I enjoy full acceleration off the line, hard cornering, and short braking, that’s why I drive Honda’s. I came out of a 2001 Accord EX-VL with the V6. This was absolutely the best car I have ever owned, and parlaying that with a previous ownership of a 1989 Acura Legend LS I thought the TSX would be the right choice. I am first of all disappointed with the power output of the 2.4L. Maybe it’s just me coming out of a very torquey, lower reving V6.....Second of all, the interior materials are obviously cheaper. I have the Milano Red with the Parchment interior. All be it, that it looks amazing, the leather surfaces mark with just simple occupation.....I just can’t help but feel like Honda cut some serious corners and rushed this model into production with the attitude that they would address issue later in future model years. I am seriously considering a trade for the 04 Accord V6, for the above stated reasons plus the addition of stock XM radio is awesome in my book.

JRP, we have similar "pedigrees," yet completely different impressions of the TSX. You had an '89 Legend for a gajillion years, I had an '88 Legend for a gajillion years. Then you had an '01 EX-VL, I had an '03 TL-S. Then we got TSX's. It's odd that we're so different about cars, which we obviously are. Maybe you really need a V6. But I'm very surprised about your opinion of the TSX interior. I don't feel that the TSX interior is any compromise compared to my prior Acuras, not even the '03 TL-S.
As they say, different strokes. And if you do get the '04 Accord, a lot of us will be interested to keep hearing about your impressions and comparisons. After all, almost all of us are big Accord fans too.

Maybe it’s just me coming out of a very torquey, lower reving V6, but in order to come close to the output of the same 200hp that the Accord carried I need to nearly red-line the TSX at every shift interval. Second of all, the interior materials are obviously cheaper. I have the Milano Red with the Parchment interior. All be it, that it looks amazing, the leather surfaces mark with just simple occupation. I want my investment to look great for a long time and the short into the game I wasn’t expecting this type of “wear.” Overall, I just can’t help but feel like Honda cut some serious corners and rushed this model into production with the attitude that they would address issue later in future model years. However I have to comment on your view of the interior. IMO, if I had to pick ONE aspect of the TSX that truely makes me love this car, it is the interior. Just about every legitimate review of this car yielded the same results. I just find it hard to think that the materials are that bad. Thats why the world goes 'round.
Maybe you should consider a WRX or Mazda 6? They may suit you driving appetite better. (Not being facicious considering those cars' inferior interior)

I can give you the radio reception part. My g/f has her antenna in the back windowof her car without any problems so we should be able to have that too.
However. Whats the problem with the "carpeting/floor mats and the trunk space/design"
No clue what your talking about in either case. You complain because the floormats can get dirty quick?! thats what they are supposed to do they're floormats for chirst sake. They are designed to get dirty instead of the actual carpet that way you can take them out and clean them which is a crap load easier then sitting and scrubbing the actual carpet thats part of the car.
As far as trunk space goes the trunk is pretty damn big. If you still need more room put the seats down.

The trunk size is adequate but without the small side storage slots which were a useful feature in the '86 Accord. Maybe Acura left these out of the TSX because it's shorter & narrower than the Accord.
The dealer led me to believe that the entire upholstery was leather not just the central perforated porton of the seats.

But I haven't thought it reflected deceit by the dealer, because the question didn't come up in any really specific way; it was just said that the seats are leather, and I've come to think that probably in the industry in general, it's kind of accepted that seats like this are referred to simply as "leather." Although from the standpoint of ultimate correctness this isn't right, I've come to accept that most things in this world aren't expressed with ultimate correctness. Also, when this was being discussed on here, the consensus seemed to be that the "fake" portions are made of stuff that might even be considered PREFERABLE to leather. So ultimately it didn't bother me -- but that's probably because I basically love the car and the company so I'm willing to cut them slack.

I have the same problem with CD players. But I've found a fix that sometimes works. Number one is to not fill the CD to the max with music (you're talking about audio CD, right?). Instead of putting 80 minutes of music on your cd (the max), put 70 minutes. Also, try a few different brands of CDs. The burnable CDs are the NOT the same. For an example, my DVD player will not play certain types of burnt CDs; imation, memorex, but will play RadioShack brand CDs.

I'll take your advice and try a different brand of disc.
Thanks

The spec sheet as I read it now says: "Sport seats with perforated leather trim"; nothing about other materials.
