Update - Need Opinions

Ok, first and foremost, the construction company people have been very nice so far. They are asking me to get an estimate. All I really want is the damage fixed. I am really worried about the after market parts.

I am not sure what to do here, so feel free to make suggestion. Here is the recap of the damage:
- Cosmetically damaged Comptech Exhaust (really minor)
- Damaged Cusco Type II
- Damaged RT cat

Option One
Go to an Acura dealer and get an estimate for an OEM cat and labor, plus provide a receipt for the Cusco Type II. The only problem I see with this are the laws related to removing a properly functioning cat.

Option Two
Go to a “tuner” shop and get an estimate to replace the Cusco Type II and the RT cat, along with labor.

The claim person was adamant that I have to get an estimate before they can go any further on the claim. I said I could do the repairs, and she said that someone had to certify the car was safe and provide an estimate for repairs. I have a feeling they will not like an estimate from a place named “xxxx Motorsports"

What should I do?

Here is what I would do:

1. Get a printout of how much a new OEM Acura Cat would be.
2. Get an estimate of a new Comptech exhaust piece (whichever it was of the 3) from Comptech.
3. Get an estimate of cost for a new Cusco Type II from MrHeeltoe or use your Paypal receipt.

Make sure to include all costs, including installation estimates based off shop rate and hours. If you want I can AllData the shop hours for the Exhaust install and Cat install. If anyone askes about the cat, you burned it up Autox'ing.... nuff said.

Update

I got my estimate today. Now I just need to fax the paperwork to the construction company and see what happens.

Best picture of the damaged RTC.

~$1,300 for a new OEM cat, Cusco Type II includiong shipping, installation, and tax.

I got a pretty harsh talking to for even jacking with the OEM cat in the first place.

Did you end up going to tuner shop? I'm guessing most Acura dealers don't have a Tein sticker on their lift

The tuner show pissed and moaned about the cat actually. I was surprised myself. This shop has been working on my Honda's for 11 years. I get the feeling they have perhaps been fined before or something for emmissions.

They would not write up the exhaust becuase it had VERY minor damage. There was a 2" scrape on the pipe between the cat and resonator and a slight scrape on one corner of the resonator. So I am just faxing a receipt of the exhaust purchase along with the estimate. Just keeping my fingers crossed at this point.

Another note is the const co is requiring that I complete a W9 for the IRS. I called my ins company and talked to the CFO at work, and both agree it was odd but that the const co will send me a 1099 and make me prove I had the repairs performed. What a PITA . . . .
