Problem with tranny downshifting???
I just got back from a short vacation in PA. While I was driving around I noticed that a few times while slowing down the rpms went up from 2-3k rpms to 4-5rpms without my foot on the gas. Was this the tranny shifting at the incorrect time? Or was this because of the elevation? I was near harrisburg so there weren't any large mountains just some hills. I have never had this problem before but it occurred at least 5 times over the past few days. Any ideas?
tranny wouldn't shift up
driving home late at night from Southern Oregon on I-5, there are some long uphill grades followed by very long downhills - as I started coming downhill, I realized the engine noise was very loud - checked the RPM and saw that it was around 4500-5000 - at first, I thought I had inadvertently put the AT into sportshift and needed to shift up, but checked and saw it wasn't - then I thought it was the grade-logic using the engine speed to brake so I tried braking - didn't work - tried accelerating - didn't work - never could get it to shift up until I came off of the downgrade - it was several miles and I wasn't very comfortable with the high RPMs - also, I feared that it was the beginning of a transmission problem of some sort - however, it is now two months later and have not had a repeat incident - dealer didn't come up with anything, but I wasn't too impressed with their understanding of the problem - I think it probably was the grade-logic but I've had Accords with same(?) system and never had a similar experience - seems like it should be possible to get out of it somehow ... ?
