Problem Seeing Road Signs with Headlights On
Problem Seeing Road Signs with Headlights On
You know how the headlights almost have a cut off so the light diffusion at top is a line, not a circle? My partner was driving the car in the absolute dark (no moon, streetlights or other cars) and could not see the road signs because the headlights didn't shine high enough. She said the signs were probably a little higher than normal and didn't appear to have much of a reflective quality to them. Is this normal? Any suggestions besides holding a flashlight out of the sunroof?
Btw, the headlights appear to be aimed correctly for open road driving.

I don't think it would have mattered if you had HIDs or regular halogen headlights in that kind of a condition. Like the others have said, that's what your highbeams are for.

you just answered your own question. if the signs had no refective quality left then it would have been hard to read without a light shining directly on it. plus you said it might have been higher than normal.

So when signs are higher than normal (and no other cars behind you but you have cars coming in your direction so you can't use high-beams), you can't read them in a TSX like you can in a normal car.
I think it just takes some getting used to IMO. I know many ppl that have HIDs now and used to hate them. The second they went back to normal Halogen, they couldn't stand it. Give your brain some time to adjust to the focused light.
The only time I have trouble with the HIDs is when you get that really hard down pour of rain and everyone's lights are glaring.

Reflector type headlights do not have a sharp cut off so they are aimmed lower in most cars. So it doesn't really matter if you had reflectors or projectors.
