Power steering surging on long curves '04 TSX
Has anyone experienced this problem? It's noticable when on long contant radius curves at around 35-50 mph. The car tracks fine around the curve, but the steering wheel rocks back and forth a bit and feels like the power steering assist is kicking in and then backing off, or surging. The car tracks straight and doesn't pull when going straight. The car hasn't always had this steering problem, but it is a bit distracting. I'm bringing it to the dealer in a few weeks and I'll have them take a look at it. My '04 TSXI has about 90K miles and I changed the power steering fluid about 65K miles, but I'd like to get this fixed before my 100K AcuraCare extended warranty expires. Any ideas?

Check the level of the power steering fluid. I was experiencing a similar response at low speeds and very high speeds. I had a lot of whining under the hood. Took it in to the dealer and had it looked at. The power steering fluid was extremely low and they're having to replace a bunch of stuff (steering rack, pump, resevoir). Luckily its under warranty.. I got an 09 TSX with navi as a loaner and its gonna be hard giving it back.

I just worked on mine last week. My ps high pressure hose sprung a leak so I was forced to work on it. I replaced the hose and the pump. Seems to have help a lot but does not get ride of the kickback at idle sitting still. As long as it doesn't do it while driving I am fine. I am assuming it was the pump starting to go out that was causing the problem. I also flushed the system with about a liter of fluid. I went the cheap route and used an autozone pump. $86 w/ $20 core. I had to buy a crowfoot flare nut wrench to get the nut off at the rack. crazy tight. The other hard part was getting the stupid stamped sheet metal bracket screwed back into the rack. I had to zip tie the bracket shut so the hole would line up so i could get the bolt in. Not sure if that makes sense but hope it helps.
