THis is just for getting into 1st gear from neutral. Not sure about you, but when I first bought my car, I was shifting into 1st about 1/2 a second after pressing the clutch. Now after 1.5 years, I just press the clutch and whack it into 1st straight away because I am now more familiar (and also not babying my car anymore). That 0.5 second can mean a big difference when you are trying to put a 700rpm input shaft onto the 0rpm 1st gear cog.
