Please post all 6MT problems here

I'm trying to compile a list of people who have any problems with their 6MTs.

My clutch is gone and to make it better I need new 1/2/3 synchros, 1/2/3 gears, and a new 1/2 shift fork. The details are long and involved, but to summerize I just need to see how many other people have had this issue.

If you could post them like this, that would be helpful to the readability:

Username : JoNnErD154
Year : 2004
Mileage : 25,100 mi
How Old? : 2.5 Years
Original Owner? : Yes
Problem(s): (1) Clutch began slipping at ~19,500 mi. (2) Executing a 1-2 shift @ > 4000 RPM grinds. (3) Under neutral load, 2nd gear pops out.

145,000 miles here. No tranny problems ever. Most awesome tranny I ever drove. In fact I just came back from a roadtrip in a Matrix XRS, and the TSX's is lightyears ahead.

I got an 05 here on the brink of hitting 28,000 miles....no tranny issues, just the clicking clutch which reminds me to have the stealership take a look into at my next oil change. Other than that, tranny is still nice and smooth.

Besides being extremely annoying, are there any other more serious issues associated with the clutch creaking / clicking. I have read many threads on this subject, but nobody seems to mention whether this leads to or is an indication of clutch failure. I have this problem on hot days (21000 mi), but I am not sure I want to rush out and have the master cylinder replaced.

I'm sorry but I just have to question you for your driving style. Maybe your driving style has something to do with these problems?

I have a little over 30k miles on the TSX, and there is no problem with it.

50,000 and the only issue I had was the creaking noise. Had the tranny fluid changed and it took care of that

I used to have 1->2 grind at high rpm shifting (above 7k). Replacing the tranny fluied with GM synchromesh took care of it.

Problem(s): clutch clicking @ 35000kms

Problem solved after dealer replaced the master cylinder and the clutch assembly. Other than that no problem at all and the tranny is still as sweet as day 1. Oh, actually the whole car is even better than day 1.

Yeah! forgot to mention another issue.... I broke my center console when I tried to remove it to install the short shift kit and Acura didn't warranty it!

Problem(s): (1) heavily resists entrance into first gear when temp is <40 degrees. I have to stop at a stop sign and sit for about 2 seconds before the synchros work.
2) shifting 2nd to 3rd at greater than 4000rpms results in gear grind.
3)shifting from 1st to second at redline I will actually bounce off 2nd gear.

Basically my synchros have failed. However, I'm getting a new tranny under warrenty for the 3rd gear grind.

Could you tell me a little more about how you got the warranty coverage?

I have a problem with my MT: the car is way too fun to drive, and it's almost impossible to do under 80 on a freeway. I'm taking it to the dealer, they recommend replacing the car with a Ford Fusion under warranty.

30k miles, clutch is slightly glazed I believe, feels different than when I first got it, but doesn't slip. Transmissions feels great, no grinding

I'll hit 20K this weekend and the only issue I've had is the reverse switch in the tranny that makes the rev. lights come on went out after about 10-12K. Dealer replaced it under warranty no problem. Other than that...tip top!

No problems here that I've noticed. Feels about the same as when I first purchased the car.

clutch started to creak in low gears at about 40k, took it in and they "lubed" the pedal and the creaking is gone. No other problems

100% That is not normal. All 3 syncros don't just die out randomly.

Naw, it's not that I need all three syncros - only #2 is worn, but you buy the entire countershaft set with gears and synchros

My only problem is that I occasionally miss a shift into 6th gear, drop back into 4th from 5th then embarrass myself. If someone is in the car with me I act like I intended to downshift, but I doubt anyone swallows that bullshit. Oh well, at least it makes me feel better . . . .

I do find consolation in the fact that I am human.

The car, of course, is perfect.

No problems, had my 04 6MT since late '03, 36k miles, plenty of stop-and-go traffic. Just the clicking clutch that I should take to the dealer to fix. This is my first MT car also. I do change MTF frequently (10k to 15k miles), everytime I do that the shifter becomes silky smooth again. I recommend people do this more often than not, it won't hurt the transmission, and it's cheap if you know how to DIY (2-3 bottles of that stuff, less than $15

06 6mt only 3,000 miles 1)also resistant entrance into first gear even when fully depressing clutch pedal
2)shifting 1st to 2nd at 7k+rmp is horrible slow even with VSA off and comptech quick shifter, just flushed the oil for REDLINE tranny fluid BUT SAME PROBLEM. I called several dealers asking if it was normal for the car to stumble and slowly react when doing quick shifts 1st to 2nd (2nd-3-4-5-6 are quick though) DEALER sead this was NORMAL, just the way the engineers set up the Synchros. I priviuosly owned a 1995 Integra GS 5mt with DCSports quick shifter EVERY gear had instantaniouse response under quick shift attempts. my last words are while racing the tsx theway 2nd gear is done costs me aboute .5seconds

Thought so. I glazed my clutch too two years ago at the track, it felt quite delicate for a while afterwards, but eventually came back to normal.

I don't have any problem like this. If I slam the shifter from first to second (i mean really yank it) when shifting at 7k rpm and the windows are open I hear a little clank, but it's just a normal shifting sound, my Geo sounded the same on every gear shift regardless of speed. Never had an issue with the 1-2 shift taking too long (other than waiting for the RPM to drop which I don't do if i'm going for speed).

well i just told the dealer that I was grinding when shifting into 3rd at greater than 4k and that I had just had my fluid changed in the last month and they were like "well we don't open the transmission case, so we'll just give you a new transmission." And that's how I did it. Guess they figure normal wear and tear.

Really looking foward to having my transmission feeling like new again.

Problem(s): (1) Clutch "click" can be felt and heard in two places during downward travel with an single click upon return. Most likely hitting cruise control and start switches. Had problem looked at by Weir Canyon Acura and problem only went away for 1 day. They said they "adjusted and lubed clutch."

It seems to get more noticable on hotter days, but could be a coincidence since I tend to be more pissed when its hot.

All those with the 6MT and complaining of resistance to getting into 1st gear when stopped, just do this:
1) Press clutch
2) Count to 3
3) Put it into 1st

I bet it will solve over 1/2 the complaints.

So how come I didn't have to count to 3 when I first bought my car...or for the first year! My tranny shouldn't just crap out after a year and a half ! If I wanted long and slow shifting I'd buy a mustang. No I bought the TSX for quick smooth shifting and I plan on having it dammit.

Have the intermittent clutch squeal issue, and the clutch does click from time to time, but not lately.

At 16K, the tranny shifts like a dream, even more so since I switched to Amsoil full synth MTF.

Sauce, I cooked my clutch pretty good on a hill start in Seattle recently, and the clutch has not felt quite the same since. Is this clutch glazing, and, if so, can I expect it to come back?

It just doesn't engage quite as solidly, though it does seem to be a bit better the last couple of drives. Either that or I'm just getting used to the new feel.
