Paint Chip

I have an 05 carbon grey perl TSX, and after only 2,000 miles, already have a few paint chips on the front bumper from rocks (see enlarged picture), and it's pretty noticeable having a white chip on a dark grey car. I've read some posts about touch up pens or getting touch up paint from my dealer, but how do these actually work? Do they look like something has obviously been touched up, especially on the carbon grey perl? Its the perl paint harder to touch up correctly?

I'm wondering if it's better (looks better) to try to fix this now myself with touch up paint, or get my dealer or a body shop to touch it up for me, or even get the whole front bumper re-painted? Has anyone had any experience with this, especially with the carbon grey?

Thanks!
-Jeff

Welcome to Honda paint.

I have a CG also and use a paint stick for touch ups. It works ok, its not perfect, but its enough to make the chips somewhat go away. Unless someone really looks hard, they wont notice.

to joerockt, welcome to the TSX paint...

I have the same year & colour as your too, couple chips on the hood when it had even less than your mileage... I bought the touch-up paint from my dealership and touched them up myself, it turned out OK. Can't notice from casual glance several feet away. You can still see it up close but then again, "a car is just a car is just a car..." and I am not turning mine into a show car anyway, so doesn't bother me no more

If you get the chips repaired/painted over, I highly recommend getting a clear bra to avoid these nasty paint chips. I have a CG and a clear bra. I had a paint chip within 3 days of owning the car. I put on the clear bra 2 weeks later and I have yet to notice a scratch or chip.

I just got my first chip too....pisses me off but what are you gonna do....I'll use the marker touch up thing.

I once sold used cars and I always used to say that the chips were a sign of "maturity"...not to mention original paint and evidence of highway mileage.

By the time I sold my TSX (with 18K on the odometer), it had chips on the hood from the leading edge all the way to the washer nozzles, as well as on bumper, side mirrors, the leading edge of the roof, front fenders, and front doors.

Don't waste your money on a clear bra. To protect your finish you really only have two choices - cover every painted surface with tape or take the bus.

PS: My 2004 Volvo with 30,000 miles doesn't have a single chip.

Really good guide

Here is a link to a really good guide on another auto site. It's a pretty involved process, but quality-in = quality-out...
