Oil

Ok I have an 05 TSX Auto with 90k miles. I just changed the oil with Mobil 1 high mileage synthetic 5W30 and a Mobil 1 oil filter. When I checked the oil It barely registered on the dipstick. I put 4.5 qts in then added the extra .5 and it did not register much higher. I usually use the OEM factory Honda filter and have no problems but am concerned for the obvious reasons. The engine is not making any noises and no lights on the dash. Any thoughts??? Anyone have this happen to them.

when did you check the oil?
notice any leaks lately?

the obvious thing to do is; fill the car with oil til it registers on the dipstick and then monitor the dipstick every 1000 miles.
if you do it this way, you will catch if something is leaking or burning

also note that "higher mileage" oils may have detergents in it that may have cleaned your engine, resulting in a burn of oil.

Monitor the dipstick every 1000 miles from now on.

I checked it right after I filled it this past Saturday and then a day or 2 after no leaks noticed. I don't want to put more in and over fill it I already put 5 qts.

I use Mobil 1 high mileage with the honda oil filter for my TSX. I assume other aftermarket oil filters for the TSX would hold the same volume of oil?

How level is the TSX when checking the oil? There can be a noticeable difference in oil level if I check on my driveway with a slight decline compared to inside my level garage. It might even make a difference if you TSX is on the street and it isn't level side-to-side.

well, OBVIOUSLY, check oil dipstick to show you when to stop pouring oil...
that's what the oil dipstick is there for...to show you the level of the oil, so you wont over fill.

after you you refilled, have you checked any more????
check the dipstick to make sure the oil isnt being burned off.
