Need Opinion on Maintanance
My 04 AT has been running a little sluggish lately, especially when I get on it, which I like to do a little too often . The dealership said they can perform "a top end cleaning" for $119.
My question is:
1. What does it involve?
2. At 30k is it necessary?
3. Is $119 reasonable?
Thanks.

Looking at the '15 TLX
It sounds like Top End cleaning involves pouring a can of engine cleaner into your engine and changing the air filter. But then again, I am always skeptical.

I assume you have been using the 93 octane? Also, replaced the air filter at 30K. If yes, the injectors may be partially plugged.
When the tank is about half full pour in a bottle of any fuel injector cleaner drive until the tank is empty and fill-up. I use whatever injector cleaner is on sale. If you are particular try Techron or BG brand cleaner.
If you have not replaced the air filter at 30K you need a new one. I replaced mine with a K&N it is reusable - shake dirt loose rinse with cold water (no soap) from opposite the dirty side. Dry and reinstall. I do the routine once a year as a preventative measure.

I just hit 30k. I always put 91 octane in (highest available in Vegas) and need to replace air filter. It's just running rough, and I don't necessarily trust the dealership when it comes to maintenance that you cannot visually inspect.
Thanks for the feedback.

what kind of driving do you do. do you do alot of short distance drives. If so take it on a nice drive on a highway. How long did you own your car 30K isn't that much for an 04. I do mostly highway driving with the cars I own. my mom's 98 honda accord, bought new, has only 66,000 miles on it and ran lousy until I moved to Nc. I drive my car to NJ where she lives, bring her to NC with me in her car return to NJ and then drive my car back home.

I have a 25 mile round trip commute to work and rarely drive elsewhere. The car was bought used with 19k on it about 6 months ago. I have no idea what type of maintenance was performed on the car before I bought it, but since I've owned it, it has become sluggish. All I have done since is change the oil every 3-4k. I will try the fuel injector cleaner and air filter and see what happens from there. Thanks.
