Navigation Drive Compatibility

I purchased my 04 TSX from a well respected dealer in Portland, OR in early Jan 2012. At the time of purchase the Nav DVD drive was actually missing and they provided a written agreement to "fix the navigation system".

The evening after my wife took it in to have the new drive installed I noticed that the Nav Voice Command didn't work. I also realized that the info menu was different than in the manual and I could not find the trip computer.

Through some searching here and another Acura forum I was able to discover how to get into the Nav diagnostic menu. Running the diagnostic I discovered that it shows that XM radio and the HFL both fail. It recognizes both control buttons on the steering wheel but no sound is registered by the mic. My 04 doesn't have XM or HFL and I'm not even sure they were offered in 04. I also recently discovered that the A/C doesn't seem to be functioning correctly.

For the following reasons I believe that the DVD drive in my car is for a 2006:
  • The part number on the new drive is 39540-SEC-A030-M1 and it has a 2006 white DVD. Through my research, I think that the correct part number for my car should be 39540-SEC-A01-M1 with an orange DVD.
  • I have compared pictures of the 04 drive with the 06 drive and it looks like the 06.
  • I think that the 04 should have the trip computer on the nav screen while the 06 has the trip computer on the dash. Currently, I don't have a trip computer at all.
  • I also have an 06 TL and tried to use the orange DVD from it in the TSX and it said that the disc was not compatible.

Since I'm convinced that I have a 06 DVD drive in my car, my question to the community is whether or not the 06 drive should or should not be compatible with the 04 TSX? If its not compatible would this cause the A/C not to work?

I do also want to mention that since the nav was not fixed and the used car lot didn't know what the issue was that the dealership compensated me already and I agreed to deal with the issue myself.

Thanks for the help,
TS

06 TSX uses the white disc...04-05 use the orange disk...you're correct and you are screwed on the trip computer. My guess is the 06 unit is dumbing down to the 04-05 interface. No HFL, no XM too (I believe).

There is probably no fix except the correct part.

Thx. Planning to watch eBay for a used 04 drive to see if that fixes it.
