Navigation accuracy

I am not sure if this is the correct forum but i need to find an answer to this ...or i'll have to take my car to the dealer. (i'm already NOT impressed with the dealership)

There are two "issues" i noticed with my NAVI on my 2004 TSX AT. It can be "user" error....

1. Sometimes, the NAVI is off course and it shows that i am on some different street, that can be more than few block away. (its way off) It takes awhile before it finally starts pointing at my current accurate location. I think that this happens mostly when i start the car and leave from a location that is NOT on the DVD mapbase. (my back yard driveway, some brand new appt complex) Is this a defect/bug in the computer or it is normal for the GPS to "get lost" and think that i am on a different street when i am not?? Btw, i have the latest 2006 Navi DVD. (ver. 3.60)

2. The NAVI screen does NOT automatically change from "Day" to "Night" lighting, even though i did select the "Auto" option for the screen lighting. I tried everything. If i switch manually to "night" or "day"...it works just fine. The "auto" mode does not work at all. What triggers this and why it is not working for me?

Thank you for any input.

1. The GPS will get lost on mine in some places for short periods of time if the streets are close together, but it always corrects itself withing a few moments (maybe 30 seconds max)

2. It should switch from day to night when you turn the headlights on if it is on auto.

If your instrument cluster light adjustment is set on "full" brightness when the headlights are on, then the Navi will not dim when the headlights are on.

Because there are two settings (one for when the headlights are off and one for when they are on), you need to have your headlights ON to fix. With the headlights on, just slightly dim your instrument cluster brightness setting (i think you turn the knob counterclockwise to dim; clockwise to brighten).

This should take care of it.

As for the navi being off, the navi in my '06 knows I'm on my street when I'm travelling on it (displays the street name in the lower section), but when I set it to give me directions to home, it thinks my street is about two blocks over. REALLY weird.

So, it is triggered by the headlights on or off? I wonder why mine does not respond to this.

on your instrument cluster area...look at the bottom right corner...turn the small dial(dimmer) to the left so it won't be set to the brightest...that will make the "auto" feature work
