Navi Getting Lost

Recently, my navi system has been getting disoriented and placing my position on the map sometimes up to 5 miles away from my current position.

I went into the system menu and checked 'GPS Information' to see what sat's it was tracking. It seemed to not be able to keep a lock on any sat! It had at most only three-four sats it was tracking, compared to eight or nine a few weeks ago.

I did get my frotn and rear windows tinted about a week ago.

Has anyone else experienced this??

I purchased my car May 03, so my Navi software version is 1.000. I called the Dealer and they said Alpine wont have a new updated CD out until March/April.

i didnt know you could actually see how many satellites its locked onto but i have 15% metalised film and i have no problems with navi. for the record though in both my 2001 TL and the TSX there has been several times the system doesnt know where it is. it takes as long as 3-5 minutes in some cases to lock onto the satellites.
it gets especially thrown off course if you start it up and zoom off driving like a raped ape. the system has to use the gyroscopes in the main unit (dead reckoning) to determin your position before it aquires the satelite signals.

That's interesting, my software version is 1.0030, and you don't have and option to see the satellites (durnit all). In an open area, you should get a minimum of 6-8 satellites. I'll see if I can find out where Acura put the GPS antenna in the TSX. Anyway, the GPS signal is so weak, that if the antenna is in the rear or front window (don't think it is, but...), yes, window tinting, especially if it is metallic in nature, would block some of the GPS signal, and might limit you to those satellites that are almost directly overhead (those satellites would produce the strongest signal). If that's happening, then your system's accuracy would be degraded as the best GPS "solutions" come from satellites that are widely spaced.... Let me check on some things.....

Okay, took me bleepin forever to find the antenna (most GPS antenna's for civilian use are about the size of your fist, although I've seen some smaller ones coming soon), its attached to the back shelf, near the left rear speaker. If you have anything sitting on the rear deck (over the top of the antenna), or if you've monkeyed around with the rear speakers, this could easily affect the signal coming to the antenna.

I live in the Black Forest. BTW, you have my TSX, give it back! ;-)) Seriously, I test drove a manual without Navi, absolutely loved that 6 speed, and told 'em get me a black or red with parchment interior and Navi, sat with the salesman while he searched the state, and not a single manual/Navi (of any color) in the whole blinkin' state, and none scheduled to be delivered for 60 days. Had to get the automatic instead.

COOL! we should hook up. dont have any friends here with a TSX and there are so few of our cars i feel left out in the world i did thumbs up to a cute woman driving a white one the other day on academy. she smiled and gave me a thumbs up back.

and about my car. they had to truck it here from texas. i only had to wait 4 days to get it from the time i said i want!
4 days later i broke it in on a trip back to texas (how ironic) and back 1100 miles.
give me a call sometime or send me a message
my office number is 572- 0900

All versions have the ability to see what and how many sat's you are connected to. It, along with a bunch of other goodies, are in the deeper hidden menus.

I know they should, but I've dug around in the menu's and so far now luck. Even (gasp) read through the Navi manual, and no luck so far. I must be overlooking it somehow.... What version of software do you have? From what main menu do you start from to get to the satellite display (It would be kind of a thrill for me to "see" the satellites from a user point of view, I've spent the last 7 years creating and maintaining the on-board control software for the satellites....) BTW, you are the second person to have my car.... cough it up!

Sure thing, although I don't know if I could stand being that envious. BTW, that makes 4 of us in the 'Springs that have taste , I spotted a silver TSX (no navi) being driven down Woodman the other day. Won't be this weekend, I'm in the middle of getting ready for my next satellite launch. I've yet to have a complete weekend since I got my toy on December 15th to just go "toolin' around" in the mountains.....

These are not in the mornal menus, to get to them you have to press the Menu, Map/Guide, and Cancel buttons all at the same time, hold them for about 5 seconds. This will put you into the Diagnostics menu. Enjoy

Do a search on this message board and the "other" one. There are a few good threads about the Diagnostic modes and how to access them on the NAV.
