Exclamation My 04' Radio, clock & AC lights out w/issues

Hello everyone! I'm new to this Forum and finding lots of infos I've wanted to know. I've got an 04' with 20,000 miles on it and recently my whole audio unit, AC, and clock LCD backlights are out. I'm going to have my car checked this weekend and made the appointment. I know this is a known issue and there are TSB out to resolve this but the thing is that I have an aftermarket DVD unit (installed in center storage right above where it says 'not an ashtray')and have replaced the factory speakers. Would this void my warranty? I'm not sure if the wires have been cut from the audio unit's wiring harness or plug n play harness have been used by the stereo shop but I do have a bad feeling that I might get turned down from the dealer for modifying it. is anyone on a same boat as I am? or have the same problem with aftermarket unit and got covered by the warranty?
I would appreciate it if someone could help me out on this. thanks...

dealership will probably give you a hard time unless you can prove that the aftermarket stuff didn't cause the problem. might need paperwork from the place that installed your aftermarket stuff.....

also mention the tsb's and this website...numerous people have had the problem and have had the factory head unit replaced....

good luck, let us know how it goes...

Just curious, and I don't mean to hijack, but there is something I have wondered...has anyone ever had the head unit replaced out of warranty?

The TSB says dealerships could replace this out of good faith if the warranty period is up... is this reality?

If it is a fairly common problem and has a major effect on the owners opinion on the car, then yes, they'll replace on goodwill. Wouldn't you want an Acura owner to buy another Acura???

Another victim here. I have to admit that I was pretty pissed when this happened but once I found out about the TSB, I was very relieved. Went to the dealer this morning and they had to order the unit.

Did they give you a loaner while they ordered the part. They gave me one for a week while the part came in free of charge.

Ive had my radio lights out 2x. Both identical problems, the AC lights went out. 1st time, they fixed the issue. Second time, the problem occured, before they fixed it, i had sirius installed. NOTE- THE LIGHTS WENT OUT BEFORE SIRIUS INSTALLATION

THEY REFUSED TO FIX IT . THEY CLAIMED IT WAS BECUASE OF THE SIRIUS THAT MY RADIO WASENT WORKING.

I got into a big argument with them saying "how can you tell me that, when the lights were out before i even had the sirius installed" basically, they were being assholes about the whole situation.

I had it fixed else where.

Can you tell us how much it cost to fix it else where? Thanks.

i just had this happend to me about a week ago. The same problem where the whole unit's lights are out. I have aftermarket lights underneath the steering wheel and the glove box where it lights up the front end. I put the lights in and everything was fine until 3 days later and the lights went out on me. I took it to Best-Buy and had them take out my unit and look at it. They took pictures and everything but the guy said that its the circuit board behind the radio that were guessing is fried. Please let me know how the whole situation goes and i will be going to the dealership tomarrow as well. I'll keep any of you guys who want to know posted on the whole situation.

Nope. I didn't really ask for one since my car is still driveable. No biggie. Just a little dark but I know where all the buttons are anyways.

The part is in now and will be dropping it off tonight.

I called and insisted that this get replaced out of good faith (rather than being covered under my extended warranty). The service manager said the good faith would cover the cost of the new radio, but not labor. He informed me labor would be about 1.5 hours (even though the service bulliten said 0.5 hours). Acura is really starting to get to me. I'll fight with them on Wednesday when I drop off the car.

My AC lights, stereo lights, and clock light final went out tonight. I have an aftermarket stereo installed and I am worried of the bill. The ac still works. but it doesn't display the level or temperture. I have extended warranty, but I also modified the stereo with an aftermarket HU. How did everyone else solve this problem? I will try calling the dealer. Can they determine if I have this problem by giving them my vin #?

See this thread. Not sure how it will play out with an aftermarket stereo, though. Good luck.
