Mud guards
Mud guards
Quick question, hopefully not a stupid one~
I recently decided to take of the 4 mud guards that the dealer put on when I purchased the car.... I don't like em. If they were painted the color of the car, like the ones on the new TL Type S, I'd like em, but they are that generic plastic black
Anyway, my question is, after I unscrewed the 3 screws and washers from each one, and took them off, are the screws supposed to go back into the holes where I took them, or were thoses holes empty and only meant to be used if someone decided to install mudguards/splashguards?
Guess I just want to confirm with others who don't have mudguards, and see if the screws are in there still, or if there are just empty holes there.
Thanks!

it would be a great idea if the mudquards came in a choice of colors- then you could choose the ones you like. I have a milano red/ebony 06 spd with painted-on black and light gray pin-stripes so I think the black mud-guards go great with my car-I would not like them to be red.
I just installed mine a few weeks ago ('06), and so here's my best recollection...
For each of the fronts, the two lower screws were there to begin with, you remove them and reinstall them over the mud guard. The third screw, up top, came with the mud flap. You have to punch a hole into a plastic blank in the fender for that screw.
For each of the rears, the top screw came with the mud guards. It replaced a screw that had to be removed. The lower screw came with the mud guards, along with a metal spring clip - a hole had to be punched into the bumper for the screw. And the upper/inner screw waaay inside also came with the mud guards. A hole had to be punched into a plastic cap in the body for that screw.
If you want to cover the holes left behind after removal, I would just plug them with screws, or push-in plastic plugs. Just make sure to use a screw for that upper rear hole, since there was a screw there to begin with, probably holding the bumper cover to the bodyunderneath.

Oh, and my TSX is a GCP. The decision maker for me was that the black mud guards almost blend with the CGP. If I had any color other than CGP or black, I would most likely have steered clear of the mud guards.

You can get the mud guards painted at a body shop if they really bug you. They can be painted like other plastic body parts like the bumpers to match the car. I'm not sure how much that might cost, ask some body shops in your area.
