Unhappy MT Grinding clutch

So I had a girl in my car this weekend, and the genius that she is, leaned over towards me (while we were sitting parked with the emergency brake up and in neutral), and she hit my clutch forward into 3rd gear. Now there was some grinding, obviously, but nothing that sounded any worse than when I slightly slipped off the clutch when I first got the car, if you know what I am talking about. So the next day when I was driving my car, I went to shift to 3rd and it is grinding a little bit going into 3rd. If I shift easily going from 2nd to 3rd I won't get it, but if I try and go quick, it I will feel it. It feels as if its not lined up and I kind of have to sort of force it in, in a way(if that makes sense, lol). Also, when I down shift to 3rd, I get the same thing. Now it is obvious that I have a problem, but how much would something like this cost to fix, and what exactly is it?

Wore down the 3rd gear synchro?

A real fix would mean a new tranny - cause the synchro replacement will probably cost just as much.

Bring it in under warranty. Say it just started happening.

No. The clutch is the thing you operate with your left foot. Synchros are inside your transmission. It's possible that they can just replace the synchro set but it's going to be expensive. They have to completely disassemble your transmission, replace the synchro assembly, and put it all back together. It's easily going to be $1000+.

Nope, has nothing to do with the clutch. The synchro is inside the tranny itself.

Will the warranty actually cover this?? And also that probably means I will have to remove my dvd player that is in the front and my subs and everything, correct? This way it doesn't void that portion of my warranty?

You'd have to deal with a real dirt bag of a dealer for him to claim that your stereo install voids the warranty on the tranny - although your age and mods on the car may influence his dealings with you. Like someone has suggested, just take it to the dealer and describe/show them the problem without mentioning how it may have happened. Be professional about it and see what happens.

Technically your warranty doesn't cover damage like this, but if you just say it started happening all by itself they might replace it for you. Of course, that's fraud and you didn't hear that from me.

Your stereo does not void the warranty on your transmission but some dealers are more mod-friendly than others. As biker said, be professional and don't divulge more info than you need to.

On a lighter note, I hope she was leaning over the center console for a good reason!

Well, if I get it replaced for free, it was worth the trip to the dealer, if you know what I mean, but not if I have to pay out of pocket, lmao!!!!
