Hi, I bought my 2007 6 speed manual transmission TSX about 4 months ago. I have noticed an acceleration delay immediately following a gear up shift when driving the car aggressively. This specifically happens when I am quickly rowing through the gears and up shifting somewhere between 5,000 and 6,500 RPMS. I will shift into second or third gear and there is a lag for a second or two where it feels like the engine doesn't realize I am giving it gas. I originally thought this was a VSA issue but it does it while off also. I have done some research on this site but I am still unsure what is causing this. Is it a DBW issue? I have read that some people keep their foot on the gas slightly while shifting to avoid the jerkiness? That seems odd.

Any advice would be appreciated, would love to know what is causing this, if there are any fixes or any threads on this topic I haven't been able to find.

Sorry to hear about your problem. I don't remember reading anything about this issue before. It does sound like a DBW issue but it's hard to tell. Do you have an OBDII scanner? It would be interesting to see which codes (if any) are being thrown. Any mods installed?

 

try resetting throttle (gas pedal) memory
- turn off radio
- turn off Heater / A/C / fan
- turn key to acc on position (just before the engine turns over)
- Press to the floor for 10 seconds
- turn key to off position do not remove key take foot off the gas pedal
- wait for 10 seconds and then start car

should have better response.

 

Thank you both for the reply. I will try to reset the throttle memory tonight. Green_henry I don't have a scanner and my car hasn't had any mods. Fingers crossed this works.

 

Is it possible the VCM cause the delay? The engine cut in 3 cylinder when at idle or waiting for traffic. Often time It take seconds for the car kick out VCM. At lease my 2013 PILOT have this delay and it is gone after I installed the VCM Mussler.

I'm going to say it is all but impossible for it to be a VCM issue. Why?

1. The car in question is a Gen 1 TSX which was never offered with a J-Series V6 engine.
2. Furthermore, I'm like 99% certain no generation of the TSX was never offered with VCM.
3. Add to item #2, I am unaware of Honda/Acura ever offering VCM in conjunction with a 6-Speed manual transmission.

Long story short, VCM isn't the issue.

The throttle is tuned for a HUGE delay. When shifting fast/agressively, you jump off the gas, slam the clutch, change gear, jump off the clutch, and then slam the gas back down.

This car wasn't meant to be driven in that fashion. So lifting your foot off the gas and then slamming it back down will not work. The ECU opens the throttle plate too gradually. That's how its tuned.

The only way to bang through gears is to leave your gas pedal flat footed down while changing gears. Never lift between shifts. Just mash the clutch, change gear, and get back off the clutch.

Or K-Pro the car.

 

BROlando, I agree, these DBW cars have highly unresponsive throttles compared to cable. And Kpro certainly improves throttle response.

 

is there a delay check valve in the clutch slave cylinder?

 

rockstar143, I'm going with a NO on that one. Someone else please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think I am.

 

Hmmm, I'm like 95% sure all recent Acuras with hydraulic clutch linkages employ a Clutch Delay Valve (aka. CDV), so unless you've removed the check valve from your clutch slave cylinder, you most likely have it.

The above said, I do not believe the CDV will cause a throttle delay like symptom; if anything you'll see the tach temporarily float higher until the clutch finally engages.

Yeah, my TL's both had it, the S2000 had it...
I just learned that there might even be one in the master side...

I removed them...I would also tighten up the throttle cable that's routed to the Throttle position sensor in the engine bay...assuming it's like the 3G.

 

I believe there is. Ive asked a few questions to a guy from hybrid racing and he swapped in a 2000 honda civic clutch master cylinder since they dont have one if im not mistaken
