^^ Nice deal, glad it worked out finally (sorta). Good luck with the '07 MDX, hopefully it won't give you problems like the TSX, even though it is another first year model, which I won't buy again.

The compressors on the 05 Rl's are failing too. Maybe should all sign a petition and give it to honda about this situation?
1884 Toyota? Don't you mean 180 years?

Sooooo, with our "situation" the dealer gave us an awesome deal on an MDX, so we took it. We are very happy with our new SUV. The dealer would only give us $12K for the TSX, whatever, I said fix it, and I'll sell it myself, and Oh, BTW we are keeping the loaner. The CX9 is a very nice CUV, but I just couldn't bring myself to spend $38K on a Mazda with a 3/36K warranty. Plus the service dept at our Acura dealer is awesome.

No word on the reduced labor....I'm not holding my breath.

The heated seat thing is a game me and my wife play while driving. We try to burn each others asses in the blistering summer heat. We were driving one day and she asked me if my butt was burning because the heated seat was on for about 10 min. I said no and tried hers, no heat!
You have come a long way in just over a week. Congratulations on your new purchase!

Sorry for the off topic question but what was it about the Highlander that you found disappointing? I presume it was an 08? I've been seriously considering one for the wife (09 MY)

And Congrats on the MDX.

Honestly, I really didn't like the look of it in person. Plus with any Toyota they will nickel and dime you to death with options. It has some good features, captain chairs in the second row for instance.

Not really. What gets me is I did some lurking on the MDX forums and found the most common gripes all of which I ruled out on my test drive of the vehicle I actually own now. The problem is the dealer is located on roads were the max speed limit is 45. So I went lurking again and found the alignment issue is actually a tire issue. Cross rotate the front two tires and problem solved. My beef is what happens at the next tire rotation?? Plus now there is a TSB on the problem, that is new.

Wow ... but if the OP got a major replacement of a/c components for a bad relay ... got the parts free ... only had to pay labor ... perhaps quite a bargain. That "oops we missed the relay" cost Acura $1200 and gave you some free new gear (even if you paid labor).

(Also glad I bought the 6 year/100K mile ext warranty on mine. I guess the next repair will pay for the $1100 it cost me.)

Is it bad enough that you can't just deal with it for maybe 20-30k miles and buy new tires? Or just get them now if you can't deal with it. I know it's extra money that you shouldn't have to spend right away, but if it makes the problem go away, then it's worth it IMO. Or maybe Acura will replace your tires for you since they have acknowledged a problem and issued a TSB.

The pitfalls of buying first year....Honestly I think every manf. has these issue's. Good luck.

Damn, this is the first I've heard of a 2006 with the A/C out. Was hoping it was fixed in the later model years. Damn!!

4 years 50,000 miles; and no, that's not normal. AC should be life of the car but
apparently the TSX misses that mark. Time for extended warrantee or trade in.

I was wondering if it was normal cause this is the first time I've ever had a brand new car. With my old b16 civic hatch when the a/c went out I just refilled the freon. So I thought I had to put more freon into the TSX, but some people have told me that me having a a less than two year old car with around 45,000 miles on it and the a/c going out is not normal. So the dealer better fix it under warranty or ima raise a ruckus! Anyone here in the DFW area deal with warranty stuff and Vandergriff Acura?

I have no idea about the dealer you mentioned, but your car is still under warranty so there should not be a problem fixing it. Even if it was past warranty, I'd do everything possible to make them fix it. If you search other A/C problem threads on here, you'll see just how common the issue is. Also, there could be several reasons why your A/C went out....freon as you mentioned, the compressor, and the relay. The compressor is by far the most expensive, but you don't have to worry about that since you're still under warranty. Good luck with the repairs.

Oh, and it is NOT normal, except for on Hondas, apparently.

I'd be at the dealer ASAP.....just be prepared to wait. This is an issue with the CRV, TSX, and RL...possibly others I just stopped looking. This Wed will be 5 weeks for me.

Good news that I should have her back today and that it was a bad clutch spring. I don't know how that affects the a/c, but it is covered under warranty. I'm scared something might go bad with a/c now after the warranty expires, but I hope not I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Hopefully your dealer will have a 12 months/12,000mile warranty after the job is done (whether your in or out of the original 4yr/52,500mile)

Glad to hear is was minor and not a compressor failure like the 04'S. The clutch springs keeps the compressor clutch engaged to work the compressor.

Well just got her back tonight and to my suprise they told me what was replaced the clutch spring as told earlier and the A/C condensor. Sadly at 45,000 miles this 2006 TSX had a bad condensor too. But on the other hand now I have a new one so hopefully this one will last me forever or at least another 50,000 miles...

Almost 5 short weeks and I got the TSuX back today!!! Finally!! Drove it home and it got a "For Sale" sign on it within the first 5 minutes. The labor came to about $920 which sucks but it's better than the $3K they could've charged me. Hope all of you have much better luck than me.

Y'know, I would call Acura headquarters and politely read this post to them. I kinda wonder what the reaction would be, realizing that a) you're so pissed off about this experience that you're getting rid of the car, and b) you are now entitled to tell anyone you come into contact with what kind of experience you had. Just a thought....

Though, it is an nice ending that the dealer cut your a great deal on another Acura. Seems they're dedicated to keeping you as a customer.

Has your wife delivered yet? How'd THAT turn out?

Trust me I tried every avenue, the GM of the service dept and the dealership, and sent a certified letter to Acura. I did print this forum out and handed to the dealer, and I think that is the reason for the goodwill on parts. I kind of wish I would've sent the forum with the letter, along with the CRV/RL forums. I hated that they claimed not to know anything about it, yet the friggin' parts were on backorder for a month. I wish they would've done a little more. Since we've gotten MDX, I've referred two people who both bought RDX's. Plus when we got the TSX, my best friend's wife ended up with one...an '06 thank God. I hate recommending stuff that ends up biting people in the butt.
My wife has delivered. We now have a healthy baby girl, and both are doing well. Thank you for asking.
As an aside, the MDX's AWD came in quite handy on the nerve racking drive to the hospital in a driving rain at 1am.

Congrats!

And yeah, with all the people you referred to them and cars you've bought yourself, I really think they should have just footed the bill for you.

Oh, and I've also printed stuff out from here and showed them. It works sometimes. It also shows I ain't no dummy.

Well let me just tell you my story with my 04 TSX. I live in Nashville, TN and about 2 months ago it was 100+ everyday. My AC went out and took it to a third party to get fixed since the Acura dealership here is AWFUL and will never do business with them again.

Anyways, I had to have the AC Compressor, Condensor, extension valve and many other parts replaced that I can't even think of. It ended up costing me $2200 with parts and labor. Luckily I got on here and found out some people were getting a good will reimbursement from Acura. I contacted Acura Client Services and was put in touch with Ben from ACS. Ben was VERY helpful and good to work with. My parts were about $1400 and luckily Ben sent me a goodwill reimbursement check for $900. Granted it wasn't the full amount but I got something back.

Since June I have put about $4000 into this car and within the next couple of weeks or month it will be gone, either buy somebody buying it or I will trade it in and take my loss. Since June I have replaced the AC, 4 brand new tires, a left and right wheel bearing and the car was also taken to the Acura dealership for a warranty update on the Navi and also a replaced headlight.

I learned one good thing from this car. NEVER BUY THE FIRST YEARS MODEL and BUY THE 100K mile warranty because it is worth it!!!!

I am now going to get rid of this thing and stay with Honda and buy a Pilot.

If anyone has any questions about my experience dealing with the TSX A/C don't hesitate to ask away!!

Hope this post was a little informative.

Now I feel less alone with my A/C problem., not that it makes me any less pissed.

My 2004 TSX went out at about 56K miles, of course out of warranty. It doesn't make sense that this would break so consistently and Acura only cover the parts.

Goodwill for Parts only isn't going to convince me to not buy another Acura when labor itself seems to run from ~$500 to ~$1000.

The condenser probably was not bad. The dealer just replaced it as a cautionary measure and to pad the bill to acura. Unless the ac lines were cracked, they would be no need to replace said condenser.

I agree with you totally on this. I have owned a 2000 Acura Integra GSR, and two TSX's and because of this problem I am not going to buy an Acura for a while. I have researched problems on the Pilot and going to buy one of those. I have realized that getting all this extra stuff on a car, Navi, etc.....you just pay extra for and it isn't worth it. All of this comes on the Honda so I am just sticking with Honda for now.

Uh...CR-Vs have the A/C problem as well, so buying a Honda isn't going to get rid of the problem for you. The Pilot may have it as well.

I wish they'd switch suppliers, if that's the problem. Or look at why it's failing on some models and not others, and fix it. I just don't understand how they can go all these years with this problem and not do anything about it. It pisses me off.

Could I replace this relay myself?

My issue is that my A/C with Auto climate control stopped working, but the A/C works 85% of the time when in manual mode. Took it to the dealer and they told me that the blades on the compressor are shot and that it needs to be replaced.

I'd like to try the relay first. BTW, I just hit 180,000 miles.

Thanks!

How did they determine the blades on the compressor are shot? That sounds like a bag of BS to me - you need a better explanation.

The relay can be replaced by you - it's a simple plug-in, so you might try that first.
Cost = $20 or so.

Cost of the relay was $4 last year, according to the invoice given to me by my dealer.
