Loose clutch pedal and hard shifting??

About a year ago, it was hard to shift my car into gear and reverse would create a grinding sound. I topped off the clutch fluid and it resolved the issue. Same thing happened again, topped off fluid and resolved.

Two days ago, same issue again and I topped off the fluid. After parking my car overnight, my clutch pedal felt really loose. It took some force to shift out of gear (I park in 3rd) and could not shift it into gear and reverse would grind. I sat there and pumped my clutch pedal for about 5-10 mins (to where I felt some resistance again) and I was able to shift but with a little force. After driving for about 20 mins, everything seemed normal again. Every time I park my car and get back in, I have to pump the clutch until I feel resistance.

Anyone experience these symptoms? My clutch seems fine because when I'm driving and shifting easily again, nothing slips.

Thanks!

It could be two things:

1) broken clutch pedal bracket assemby (this is somewhat common)

2) clutch needs to be bled.

I agree that you should try and bleed your clutch. I am having the same issue, bled the clutch and it worked just fine for a few days. Now we are back to tough shifts and crunching into reverse (put the car into reverse before starting the car prevents this).

I am changing the slave cylinder this weekend.

I had the very same problem and found out too late that those 3 small bolts at the end of the master cylinder had gotten loose causing loss of clutch fluid, ever so slightly but enough to weaken pressure delivered at the slave (one bolt actually broke while in traffic leading to complete failure of the clutch).

Check and tighten those 3 small bolts at the end of the master cylinder.

have been hearing creaking noises from the clutch pedal, just installed a new cmc a few weeks ago so I knew it had to be the bracket
my buddy welded the seams. fixed it. a lot more sturdy with less deflection. the entire pedal throw is more smooth
