Lights on center console out?

Guys, I just bought a 04 TSX yesterday, with 46,000 miles. Anyway, the cd player was giving an erre code, and all the dash lights were out. The dealer I bought it from said that it was beacuse they changed the battery, I need to get the code from the Acura dealer. So, today I went and got the code, and drove around fine showing off my friends my new TSX, but I noticed as it got darker, that the lights in the center console still dont light up. Is this normal? BTW i guess I have less than 4K miles until my Acura warranty is up, do you guys reccomend the extended warranty in case anything like this happens and its something seroius? thanks!!

Its a known issue. Check out TSB No. 04-021 in this thread: FAQ: TSBs, Recalls, and Known Issues

Get thee to a dealer before your warranty is up.

mine has been replaced once, and they are now out again.

warranty is up...

i'm basically fucked.

They said they'd replace it if it was within a year of the part being installed, but of course it was exactly 13 months since it happened.

so here i am with a 3 year old TSX, and the dashlights have now been out 2x, now i just have to live with them out because acura wants $1300 for a new one.

^^ have you contacted the same dealer that replaced it the first time around? Maybe they can do it based on goodwill.

yea i did take it back to the same dealer, too far out of the car's original warranty, and too far after the original 'first' replacement (refurbed) unit was put in.

i really wnana get on thier asses for putting a refurbed unit that arguably still had the same problem of the original unit. but i think it'd just be a waste of breath, it IS significantly after the warranty.

but i think its bullshit that a car's dash lights should go out once a fucking year.

i dont have the $1300 to repalce the unit, especially when i have no garuntee that even it will last past another year since its obviously a re-occouring flaw.

what i need to do is get brave enough to get up in the unit and see if i can fgiure out if its just bulbs, or what thats casusing the lights to go out often.

Same thing happened to my 04 TSX after about 1.5 years of use. They had to replace the entire center console, including the navi and CD changer. Never did get my old CD's back (the ones I accidentally left in the changer).

I'm also pissed at Acura about this issue.

I just recently had a case of the 04-021 and it cost the dealer actually $1700 and some change to get it fixed.

Does anybody, know the the affected VIN # range?
by the last 5 digits of my VIN it looks like I am around the 500th built TSX...
at night, I could notice it slightly dim....I would like to get this fixed, if indeed there is a problem. I also notice sometimes that my Nav unit is slightly dimm, when the car starts.

Thanks.

Its in the TSB, in the same line as the date. "Applies to 2004 TSX From VIN JH4CL9...4C000001 to JH4CL9...4C028982"

Okay, I see it now...I wasn't able to see it at first because it was so small, so I guess I'm included in one of these recalls. I think I better check out other TSX's and see how their Lighting looks (since I can't really compare yet). If it's much brighter than in mine, then I guess it's time for me to take it in to the dealer and have that fixed.

Thanks...
