Left Rear Creak -- Poly Bushings?

I installed the ES poly bushings on my Comptech RSB this fall (using the ES lube), and now that the weather is ass-eating cold (below 0F) I've been getting a creak from the rear end over bumps or dips. I reproduced it by pushing down on the rear end.

I don't know for sure it's the bushings, but anyone else with poly bushings and cold weather getting a creak? Is it typical of poly bushings? Or is it more likely another suspension part?

i noticed a left rear creak this evening for the first time since installing tien basics. its not nearly as cold here, but the coldest i have driven this season. i was kind of wondering if it was the teins, or something else? any one?

I've got poly's on mine and nothing so far. Grease it up and tighten everything.

poly bushings tend to make noise if not lubed properly.

Yup, I got the same thing too after putting the polys on. Lube her up!

In fact, if you can, try putting on teflon tape on the bar first as suggested by a member here a while back...

Thanks, guys. That's what I'm going to do -- lube the sucker until I can't lube it anymore and probably put Teflon tape on, too, for good measure. I'll report back for any of you who are experiencing the same problem.

I live in PA and it's been fairly cold lately. I'm getting some creaking from the rear but I can't tell if the TeinSS or the Comptech RSB with ES poly bushings. It seems to happen more when I first drive the car and happens much less often once it's warmed up. I was under the car this weekend to tighten the bushing mounts so maybe that will help. When I installed the RSB with poly bushings I used a ton of lube but was afraid to overtighten the bolts and break them. I think I undertightened them the first time.

I tried bouncing the car from the rear to reproduce the creak but I couldn't do it so it is hard to say for sure if it is the bushings or the coilovers. If it continues, I may try the teflon tape approach.

I re-greased the bushings inside, outside, etc. (greased the s#*t out of them) with the ES lube. Also wrapped the RSB with teflon tape. No more creak. However, in re-installing the RSB brackets, one bolt (passenger side bolt toward the front of the car) stripped the threads in its mounting hole while I was torquing it (using 16lbs on my tq wrench). It's pretty tight, but it's not 16 lbs (the wrench didn't click) -- the other bolt on that bracket is 16 lbs, so are the two on the other bracket.

I'm thinking I'll get a longer bolt of the same thread and put a nut and lock washer up on top of the original welded nut (kind of inside the frame bracket) and then torque it down. It should be ok to drive in the interim (basically, tonight), shouldn't it? I mean, it's definitely wrench tight, just not 16 lbs.

Those little short OEM bolts are shitty.

You'll be fine to drive it until you put the longer bolt.

I don't think we had any complaints from the OEM setup squeeking. To the stealership for service if it is still under warranty!!!

Need to bump this thread. Wondering if I have a suspension problem and should take it in to get looked at.

I sat in the car this evening to get my sunglasses out, and just as I sat down, I heard a horrible loud metal creaking noise come from the rear of the car. It was so loud I jumped and was like . I got out and proceeded to push down on the corners of the trunk to see if I could produce the noise again. I did, but not quite as loud as the first. Pushing down on the front has no effect.

2004 AT
56,200 miles
All stock except Ronjon wheels and aftermarket brakes

Any suggestions on what could be wrong? And should I get it looked at now, or can it wait ~4 months to my next oil change?

Put the rear end up on jacks and try to isolate the part that is making the noise. You should be able to continue driving it, but with the noise.

Unfortunately I'm not that mechanically inclined to even know what I'm looking at, let alone to notice if something is not right.

I suppose I'll just wait it out and see if it continues/gets worse, then mention it at my next oil change.

I hear ya. You should be okay to keep driving it until you go in for routine maintenance.
