Keeping it running like new

I drive alot. 48K on an '06 TSX automatic. I keep it well maintained, changed transmission fluid twice etc. I have noticed a little decrease in exceleration -- esp from a stop. Also the front end isnt quite as stout as it once was.

Any suggestions how I can keep this machine running close to new?

I am not mechanically inclined, so even basic suggestions would be welcomed

I think you just need your but dyno recalibrated. LOL

Seriously, the slight differences you are feeling (if they are indeed real) could just be differences in the environment (like air temperature) having an effect on performance. Or they could even be related the the type of gasoline you are using (or even a "bad" batch of gas). As long as you are maintaining like your MM says, then you should be just fine. BTW, what do you mean by a stout front end and what the heck is exceleration anyhow?

Whoa! you already put 48k on your '06 already sheesh what do you do anyways?
I could see 10 or 15k but almost 50k already wow, your job must make you drive all over the place.

This is what I thought as well. No car is going to run as well when it's very warm outside. Where do you live? I'd bet it's hotter now than when you bought the car.

I live near Kansas City

By the way -- I do know it was acceleration -- trying to be humorous.

ANYWAY .... I am driving a new TSX these days (getting some body work done) and i sure notice the difference in immediate ACCELERATION and the front suspension is tighter.

I only use the Premium Grade Fuel.

Peace all

Suggestions:

1. Use cheaper synthetic oils and change every 6k. Change oil filter each time.
Nothing beats new engine oil each time.
2. Clean off fuel line every 3K. Clean your air filter regulary by proper method.
If you using after market K&N, do the recommended steps but don't overoil.
Buy a carburator or manifold spray and also spray into it to clean off the
manifold. If possible, remove and clean it as clean as you can. sometimes
they may have to use a soaking or deburring to remove any stubborn stuff.
3. Use NGK (my butt dyno feels more torque) and Iridium tips or even Brisk plugs platenium and change every 12K.
4. Check your tyres regularly for pressure and remove any unneccessary load.

The maintenance of the firing is important as it will determine overall power usage. So, fuel + Air + firing = power, so work along each of those parmaters and make sure optimum.

Remember what it is like when you clean the fan in the house from dust? Feels like new again when used.....

pump more air to the tires. your car will take off like a 911.

Since you keen, here is the add-ons

Cheaper synthetic engine oil. Of course it differs from where you are and where I am, but we could find real cheap synthetic enginer oils from the UK. Damn, it makes us wonder....but do some simple maths on price vs changing at what levels to the usual engine oil you use.

50K Check clutch, belts, spark plugs, battery, aircond (lubrication).

80K Change clutch if you have not done so!!! Change all belts like fan, alternator etc. Timing is chain and usually good for 150K. Bleed your brakes fluid and restore with fresh new brake fluid. Also change the gear oil or transmission oil. Check the brakes pads. Clean the air intake system

Usually at 6K intervals : Change engine oils and filter. STick on a powerful magnet on oil filter to traps ferrous parts. Inspect spark plugs. Clean air filter and manifold with spray.

Every 50K, change brake fluid. 80K change the gear trasnmission oils. Use Honda's Manual Transmission Fluid (MTF II???) or ATF.

Next critical mark : 100K, 120K, 150K, 180K 200K and so on. Once you had enough, get the next new model Acura.....
