K&N Air Filter

Just curious if anyone has replaced there OEM type filter with the K&N air filter exact fit like OEM, and if you have seen an MPG improvement.

K&N filter won't affect fuel efficiency. ECM compensates for increased resistance or lower resistance of a filter. Only possible benefit would be perhaps improved particle filtering. However OEM is more than adequate, so probably just bragging rights is only benefit.

good luck

Are K&N's for the TSX designed to be oiled? On other forms there is discussion about owners using too much oil when the refresh their K&N'S and they end up eventually fouling sensors.

I replaced the OEM with a K&N. Not sure I noticed any difference.

When you wash the K&N you have to re-oil. The only benefit is if you keep the car long haul.

I've had my K/N drop in filter on my TSX for +5 years and about +90,000 miles with the filter (98,000 miles total). I usually clean and re-oil every spring. I think I purchased it for about $35 back in the day. I also have a K/N drop-in filter on my RDX three years ago and have the same cleaning schedule. I am planning on keeping both car for another 100,000 miles each.

I had a K/N filter on my old 97 Accord for +8 years before I gave the car to my niece a few years ago. As far as I know, the K/N is still in the car (10 years and +170,000 miles with the filter).

I am a little skeptical going to a K & N filter because I have read on other forums of it messing up some sensors and also I have read if you want to keep using a paper type filter the best to use is a WIX from NAPA.

I think there is a greater potential of messing things up with a K/N filter from over or under oiling. One less thing to worry about with a dry filter in your vehicle. I live in higher altitudes (5000-7500ft) with the speed limits between 65-80 mph and I would like to think the better breathability of the K/N helps with my type of driving (prefer power over mpgs). I still average 30-32 mpg with my 5AT on the hwy with my cruise control at 80 mph (could be the combo of syn oil, K/N and long treadlife tires).

I put my K&N in in 06 and still have it. have only put 54K on the odo since but , it still saves me from buyin paper after paper after paper. Has had no negative effect , and has paid for itself in usage. Just recentlky cleanid it for the first time and oiled it. Still no issues. Maskes me wonder if a cold air induction set up is worth it.

I have one, owned it with the stock air intake for ~3 years I have had the car.
To ...me... the car sounded like it was breathing better, but I'm no car expert. As for a difference in fuel economy? Maybe 1 mpg.

I find the K&N just cheaper to own if you are going to keep the car for a long time.
After you buy it the refresh system is $15 near me, which cleans the filter 3 times (so $5 per clean). A new paper filter is $25 and is not as efficient.

When you clean it you have to let it dry for a bit in a warm enough room. For people having issues they are probably leaving too much oil on it, not letting it dry long enough (it never fully dries).

How often do you run full throttle? CAI might be worth 1 or 2 HP at full throttle only. It will decrease fuel economy ever so slightly, but you will never notice the impact.

Zero chance it improved your MPG. Your cars intake is restricted 99.99% of the time by the throttle. Unless you are running pedal to the floor wide open throttle, you are restricting the intake.

At wide open throttle, you may get 1 HP, but you would notice a greater performance increase in daily driving by just removing 15lbs of weight.

I save the money of buying a K&N and a paper filter by cleaning my paper filter. I do this just like beating a rug, except I tap it on the ground. Since I almost never run wide open throttle, the miniscule amount of restriction I might have from not having a perfectly clean filter is not noticeable.

I guess I can understand the supposed benefit of re-using the K&N, but if the original air box is retained (as opposed to a SRI or CAI), it seems that $12 (Mann) - $15 (Wix, with others in between)(Amazon, shipped) a year for a new air filter element is easier, quicker, and cleaner (and not too much to ask if you've chosen to drive a car the caliber of the TSX; after all, it's not an 87 Chevy).

I swapped the OEM for a K&N filter two years ago. It seemed throttle response was better at the time, like the car woke up, but that is not confirmed by an actual dyno measurement. I had used a replacement paper filter before, and did not notice similar results. MPG did go down slightly. It is ready for its second cleaning. I also have a motorcycle, so I can ride that while waiting for the filter to dry/applying oil to the K&N.

I put a K&N air filter in my TSX. Not sure if it made any difference. I like to think it does. Better air filtration? I got it from Amazon. Not terribly expensive.
