I Hate Rocks!

Ah, what a wonderful ride home from work Friday. Six inches of rain, remanants of a hurricane, flooding, rockslides...and one of the dang rocks hits my car!

Already called my insurance. I don't know if they'll have to paint the whole door or not. Getting an estimate on Tuesday. It's hard to tell from the pics, but the door is also dented in both spots. What a bummer.

Yep. That's exactly what happened. I'm driving home in the pouring rain and there's a bunch of debris all over the road. I didn't realize the debris was due to a rockslide until I was in the middle of it...Then "wham"! A rock comes from nowhere and hits my car. From the sounds of it I just knew it wasn't gonna be good.

Damn... that sucks. Same thing just happened to me this weekend! The damage isn't as bad as yours, but it still nicked with through the paint to the sheet metal on my driver's door.

Damn. That happened to me as well, but it didn't hit my car. It hit ME!!! What happened was I had my window down and my arm sticking out. And all of a sudden I felt this hard object hit my arm and it felt like a rock!!!

I just had mine repaired due to the same type of damage. I was on my way to Vancouver in August and a semi going east threw a good sized rock at me (hit drivers door). It did not leave a dent but went right down to bare metal (huge chip). The body shop removed the window trim, mirror and door handle, repaired and blocked the area and re-cleared my entire door. Looks new again. What a pisser.

well, i pretty much have resigned to the fact that rocks and debris will someday, somehow damage my paint job unless.... 1) I get big ugly car bra, 2) never drive the car, or 3) install transparent film to cover the front. I actually did #3 on my old car, a Celica GTS. The company i got the film from is called invinca-shield, and they sell pre-cut pieces of 3M transparent film that is specifically made to adhere to vehicles and protect the paint job. For me, it was great because it saved the front of my car from countless debris and pebbles. The film itself showed signs of tiny impact marks (only seen when looked at very closely) from the countless things that hit it during the 3 years I had the car. The only downside to this is you have to install it yourself. The kits come with the film, adhesive solution (basically a soapy solution that does not damage paint in anyway), and an instructional video. It took me an entire afternoon (3-5hrs) to get the stuff on right (its really tricky if you have a car with lots of curvey areas like the 01 Celica GTS). But once its on, it there for good. Best of all, it never yellows, or discolors in anyway. I had it parked for 3 years out in the sun whenever i went to work - no discoloration whatsover. Anyways, sorry for the novel here ... but if your interested in something that looks great (you dont even see the film), and protects the car from most debris/rocks on the road - then check out invinca-shield.com. I actually plan on ordering the stuff soon for the TSX, and as soon as I get it on, ill post the results here.

There are many threads on that in this forum. There are also many installers who will do it for you.

Search for Clear Bra, X-pel, rockblocker, or 3M, you'll get lots of hits.

You're going to call your insurance company over that?

Just touch it up yourself.

You're kidding me, right??? The car is dented. A simple touch up may prevent rusting, but that's about it. The paint will still look like crap, and the dents will remain. Besides, I pay insurance for a reason.

I just got an estimate from the dealer and it's going to cost close to $600 to get the car back to new. Luckily, my insurance deductible for comprehensive damage is only $50.

I'm not kidding. Maybe its because of the pictures but it doesnt look like something I would want to repaint my whole door for. Its maybe got a slight ding, but hardly a dent. It looks like it could be touched up and hidden if done right.

But I understand where you are coming from; the first one is always hard to swallow. I also didnt know you had a $50 deductable (my insurance wont go lower than than $300 ) so this changes things as well.

$50 dolloar deductible? Wow.

Anyways, I can relate. The bottom lip of my front bumper is scratched and peeling due to the rocks that were flying all over the road the past week on route 80.

I'm back from the dealer's body shop. They did an absolutely awesome job. Everything matches perfectly. I've had many cars repainted and I've never seen a job this good. I don't even know where it was damaged...

Now I have to wait 90 days to wax. AHHH!!!

Hondaboy, I live in W. PA as well, and its rock city. PennDOT just loves leaving the roads with a ton of rocks all over 'em. The Parkway North, in particular, is just loaded with them.

I am curious what dealer you went to...I may very well need their services sometime in the future as well, and it looks like they did a nice job on your TSX.

I went to Smail Acura in Greensburg. They are extremely professional and seem to cover all the bases. They're a little tough when it comes to buying/dealing, but the customer service is absolutely unbelievable. I didn't buy my TSX there, but I go there for service each and every time.
